    Black Algae on plants

Ok...Thanks for the replies.....however, I don't think my situation is being addressed accurately. My tank does not have live plants - I have silk plants. My lighting is (2) 40w Trichromatic 6500K's and they are on for about 10hrs a day. I do weekly PWC's (religiously) of about 25% - and...

    Black Algae on plants

Ok....I'm getting fed up. (not really - just a bit upset) I've had my 70 gallon FW tank up and running for a bit over a year now. I have had NO problems associated with disease (I.e. - ICK) or water quality. What I am not happy about is the build up of what I think is black algae on my SILK...

Trading in Angels - what now?

Thanks for all the responses.... I think I'm gonna go with the 'Flame/Blood' Gouramis as they are very colorful. Anyone see problems with putting 2-3 together?

Trading in Angels - what now?

Ok....looking for some opinions/advice. I have a 70 gallon FW 'community' style tank (up and running about 11 months and having no problems). My current stocking is: 4 large Angels (actually have 2 mating pairs) 14 Rasboras 5 Rummynose Tetra's 2 Clown Loaches (which I never see as they live in...

    Help with Angels

Ok...I've had my 70 gallon up and stocked for about 6 months now. All is fine with my fish and water quality. I've encountered no problems over the past 4 months or so and I'm doing weekly 30% water changes and a light gravel vac about every other week. My question/problem is with my Angels. I...

    SAE, otos and me

I recently added 3 SAE's to my 70 gallon and no longer have algae (fuzz/hair)! These guys are great. As oxymoron said - make sure you get true SAE's and not an imitation. On a side note - the SAE's are also fun to watch. I have 6 Rummynose Tetra's and the SAE's frequently 'school' with them...

    Auto feeder

Thanks...ordered an Ehiem from Big Al's this morning....if it works well, I'll probably order another. Can you mix foods in the feeder? I.e. - I typically feed both TetraMin Pro flakes and Bio Blend pellets both morning and evening.....could I mix those in one feeder?........I also feed OSI...

    water change

I do 25% changes (for my 70 gallon) on average 2x week adding Amquel to the water as I'm refilling. Haven't run into any problems. Amquel removes Ammonia, Chloramines, and Chlorine.

can we have a sticky for stocking advice?

I agree with QTOFFER - Excellent book.....and some pretty good stocking schemes.

    Clown loach and corys.....?

I agree with Zezmo - I've had 2 clown loaches (about 3 inches) with my 4 Cory's for about 4 months now with no problems.

    Angel in trouble

Lost the angel last night.....I have to wonder about the blockage idea. It makes sense as all other indications where normal. I don't think that the blanched pea diet would have worked as the Angel was not interested in eating at all....she just hid in the plants. Well, I still have my 4 Angels...

    Angel in trouble

Nope, no scales sticking out....it appears 'normal' other than bloated/full. She is not going to make it as she is now upside down on the bottom. I don't expect her to be alive in the morning.

    Auto feeder

Although it doesn't really have much information.....just a recommendation for Ehiem (have to look into those) and talk of some feeder from WalMart (which I am not even remotely interested in!)

OPPS! Sorry for the posting....I just found the other thread similar to this.

    Auto feeder

I'm going to be going on vacation in about a month for a week and would like to get an auto-feeder. Anyone have experience with these? Also, and probably more importantly, how about recommendations for one? I want to be sure and get a good one......my tank is a 70 gallon tall and I have about 36...

    Angel in trouble

Any ideas? 1~What type of fish is afflicted? Striped Angel, about 4 inches In addition, please describe what is wrong with the fish to the best of your ability (i.e. cotton like growth, bloated, etc.). About 4 days ago I noticed that one of my Angels (and I have 5 all about 4-5 inches)...

New Angelfish pics - clamped tail fin?

What he said! Turn on the lights!!!! As long as you properly acclimated him upon adding him to the tank, there really isn't a need to do anything different. Also, you may want to think about adding a second as a tank-mate but you'll have to watch as they get bigger.....a 30 long is not ideal...

    Best small SCHOOLING fish?

I have 15 Rasbora's that always school at the mid-upper level of my 70 and also have 6 Rummy's that stay together at the mid-lower level. I think those are probably 2 of the better 'schoolers' but I believe the real key is to ensure you have enough fish to encourage schooling behavior (at least...

    rummynose feeding habits?

I also have 6 Rummys and they NEVER come to the surface. They eat whatever my Angels spit out once it gets to mid-tank. I don't think any full size flakes ever make it past my angels. My Angels are PIGS!

    Unusual pleco, any ideas?

Take a look at the Gold Nugget.....good-looking! I have one and for the first 2 weeks almost never saw him (very shy) but now he is coming out more and more...just have to stay back from the tank and not make any quick moves!

    Stocking my 70 gallon

Ok...I'll throw my 2 cents in here as I also have a 70 gallon tall tank that I started back in February. My stocking is as follows: Angels (5) - gliders....all over the tank. Rasbora's (14) - great upper level schooling fish Rummynose Tetra's (6) - great mid to lower level schooling Blue Rams...

    At capacity?

Oh boy....when I was buying the Pleco, I inquired about Oto's as I was trying to decide if I should go with them as opposed to a Pleco. (2) LFS's that I visited told me that Oto's need an established tank with plenty of 'green' algae to thrive and survive. At the time, my tank was just finished...

    At capacity?

Hmmmm....I should have done my own homework before buying the Gold Nugget. I relied on the LFS and they told me this guy would take care of algae and not get bigger than 6-7 inches......after reading your response (JChillin), I read more on them and see that they aren't really good about algae...

Fish that swim mid to upper tank?

I have 14 Rasbora's in my 70 and they actively school and stay in the upper 25% of the tank probably 75% of the time. Consider them.
