Hi! Desperate for dojo loach injury advice

Just leave the poor fish alone. Keep the water clean by doing daily water changes. He’ll heal fine if he’s eating. Do not take him out of the tank anymore. The stress your causing him will do more to increase the chance of problems. Clean water is the best medicine. They are resilient and heal...

Aquarium salt doesn’t work. What’s next?

Your showing ammonia in your tap water. Your tank is only 3 gallons so just get a jug of water from another source that doesn't have ammonia for your water changes.

    Oscar Tankmates

Yup still around. Although I have rehomed my wild caught Bahia red tail Oscar I had for the last few years to this guy with Joey, Matt. I'm from Joeys area. https://youtu.be/zsLSi5fZbic And I am now keeping discus. My 3 year old daughter has taken a liking to the aquarium and fish and enjoys...

    Oscar Tankmates

Yup I agree. 2 Oscars will fill that tank with 2 50-100% water changes a week. Get rid of the under gravel filters. They are horrible for large messy fish.. Especially ones that dig.

    Guppy with clamped fin

Fish do go through a lot of stress in travel for sure. I would like to clear something up that brennae mentioned in regards to the fish being floated and then added directly to the tank. This is the best way of acclimation for fish that have been shipped for long periods of time. I'll explain...

    Three fancy goldfish, advise wanted

High temps, salt, lack of water changes. That's the problem. Probably cleaning the filter to much too and causing cycling issues. 3 8 inch messy fish like gold fish in 55 gallons would need large water change of 50-75% every couple days to keep things healthy. Add high temps to bad water and...

    80 gallon oscar tank mates

Having kept many oscars over the years, I can tell you that the tank will be full in no the with one Oscar. It will grow quick and fill it fast. With just an adult Oscar in that tank your going to need a couple smaller water changes of 50% a week, or 1 large water change of 80-90% to keep the...

New fish tank - Overstocked? Advice?

If your algae eater is one of these Then depending on the actual variety of pleco, a 36 gallon may not be big enough for it alone.

How do you keep your fish safe while vacationing ?

2 weeks is not long for fish to go without food. If fish die in that period, they weren't healthy to begin with, are young fry, or you have other problems in the tank causing issues. No healthy fish in a healthy environment will die from 2 weeks without food. Fish generally take 3-4 days to...

Please Help! My Angelfish is in trouble

25% water change a week on a 36 gallon tank with 2 good sized angel fish in it, is where your problem is coming from. Do at least 50% a week, probably more is needed, but the liquid test kit will help determine that. Don't forget to shake and beat bottle #2 of the nitrate test like it owes you...

Can I turn off the air pump at night? Please read.

You have other problems in this tank besides air pump on/off. You have the stocking level of a 200 gallon tank and 2 koi that are pond fish and should not really be kept in a tank at all. Turtles are extremely messy and the pleco is as well. The 40 gallon tank is too small for that pleco alone...

    Sick old fish

I should have added to get a liquid test kit as strips are useless. API master kit is a cheap kit that works very well that most people use.

    Sick old fish

Get a test kit so you can rule out water conditions. As a keeper of large cichlids myself, I can make a suggestion that 25% water change a week in a 65gallon is not enough to keep toxins from building up. Do a 50% water change and see if he perks up. At the age he is, it may just be old age.

Patty and Johnnys new Juvenile Tiger Oscar

Sorry to hear he's not doing well. When you "woke" him up, was the room dark before you turned the lights on? They get washed out looking and either float or sink when sleeping. Depending on the fish. When they are woken up they act funny until completely awake. I'm sure you know this by now...

    Dovii tankmates

Try rocks or an old leather boot as tankmates lol. They don't like much. Especially if he's settled in. Good luck.

Oscar sick? fin going white / clear

That's normal new growth. If your setup is new and filters not cycled properly , with not enough filtration, and only a 55 gallon (a 75 gallon at least would be better), with the Oscar ONLY in it, then you are heading for eventual problems not far down the road.

    Filter Media

By the way filtration has no effect on the amount of water changes needed or stocking level. Doesn't matter if you have a handful of bio media or a truck load. You tank will produce X number nitrate ppm and this is the what you should be going by to indicate water changes. As said a lot more...

    Filter Media

You just need to make sure that what ever you use, you have at least enough to colonize a good amount of bacteria so there is never any free standing ammonia or nitrites in the water and it gets processed immediately. You can use anything you want really, plastic clothes pins or plastic kids...

    Gravel cleaning views

If you didn't put a cycled filter on the new tank or media from a cycled filter in the new filter, then just putting gravel and driftwood from an old tank, in a new tank is not cycling. There should not be that much debris in the gravel. Do you gravel vac? What is your stocking and water change...

    2 Galaxy Pleco Deaths

Test strips are inaccurate, doesn't matter if God himself uses them, still inaccurate. For your stocking do larger water changes. Especially where the tank is new. When nitrates hit 20ppm do at least a 50% water change. I do 2 75% water changes a week on my 125 gallon. You may need more bio...

    200 Gallon Community Tank?

Flowerhorns are vicious. That's why you see them in tanks alone. Do lots of research before you start putting fish together. I know 200 gallons sounds big but a single large cichlid will fight for all of it. Getting them to live together is always hit and miss. I would think about a single large...

    Small White worms

Detritus worms. Vac the gravel better when your doing water changes. Do more water changes. Don't over feed.
