Thanks! That is an awesome explanation. Gives me a good idea on how to do mine if I find the time. Anyway excellent job on yours. If you do anymore projects like this please let us know.
Can you even overdose on this? I mean withen reason, obviously if you dumped the whole bottle in that probably wouldn't be good. But if you dose for 20g when you change out 5 g that would be okay wouldn't it? I thought when doing water changes you dose for the total amount of the tank anyway...
Wow! Youve inspired me! Could you give me a list of equipment you used for this (as well as cheaper stuff now that you have built one)? Money is kind of tight but I really want a 3D rock background.
I've been wondering about this too as I also have 0 ammonia and nitrites but showing a 20-40 nitrates. Guess I wont worry about it unless it turns red. Fish all seem to be doing well.
I always wonder how my pleco gets enough to eat too. I have driftwood in there (do they eat this or just use it to chew on or what?). He never comes out to eat and when I drop my shrimp pellets and algae discs the other fish usually eat it before he even comes out.
At work currently. I'll try to get a pic on here by tomorrow.
EDIT:
Actually here is a thread I started that has a pic of my tank. I have blue sand on the left side and blue/white fine gravel on the rest of the tank. I think it works well...
From all my research and advice from more of the seasoned aquarists on here. NitrAtes are a good sign of beneficial bacteria as this is the waste product from them. If you are showing 0 NitrAtes then I would think your beneficial bacteria has all been killed off and your water is "too" clean...
Finally have zero Ammonia in my fish in cycle (did research after started)
Readings as of this morning:
Ammonia = 0 ppm
Nitrite = 0 ppm
NitrAte = 5 ppm
So relieved that my fish are safe! Thanks for all your advice on here.
Okay this may be a long one, please stay with me.
Got my 30 gallon early December. Upgraded from a 10 gallon. Used 10g biomedia to seed 30g and let run with Aqueon 75 filter, air bubbler and temp at 75' for two weeks. Went through the whole bacterial bloom and cleared. At this time I didn't...
They are my largest Marbled yellow/black Mollly and my largest Zebra Danio. Again, I've yet to see any bodily injuries. But they chase/play?? with everyone in the tank not just from their school. Not long.. longest chasing session I've seen is maybe 5 minutes.
Hey Gang,
Just wondering if there is a way to tell if my fish are just playing and chasing eachother or if there a a couple bullies in my tank? Its usually two fish that do the majority of chasing (possible niping). None of the fish have damage to their fins or body but sometimes I wonder if...
