    75G LED Lighting Question

Greetings All, I have a 75G (48x18x21) reef tank with sump. Been trolling the threads to figure out the best lighting option, for future corals and such. LFS guy suggested the Marine Land "Reef capable" LEDs but that seems to be roundly panned here on AA. Doug and some of the others had...

    Aiptasia!! Help

Brenden, I got some aiptasia with my LR, and thought that I would just let it go, though there was a big guy (about and 1 1/2" across). Got a peppermint shrimp, but all he does is hang out upside down on a rock. Woke up to find a few more, so decided to take action. Fluff always mentions...

    Continuing pH issues

OK, here are my parameters (as best I know with my hard to read tests) Temp. 79.7 SG 1.025 Amm. 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0-5.0 (hard to tell, but closer to 0 I think) pH 7.7 Alk 125 (2.5) (another that is hard to tell) Calc 440-460 Note that...

    Continuing pH issues

This evening I will retest all of my parameters, and see what I get, including Alk and Calcium. Have to say that my alk test, with a litmus type strip, isn't real easy to read... but I'll get you what I can. And Phyllis, I use RO/DI water that comes from my tap, then through my unit that I...

    Continuing pH issues

I'm currently using Oceanic salt. And in terms of airation, I've got a powerhead in my 15 gallon bucket that I'm using for my water changes. I'll be recalibrating the probe tonight, to make sure it is ok. Just got it a week and a half ago and calibrated it once, but will do it again.

    Continuing pH issues

My pH in my cycling tank continues to be around 7.5. In the process of doing a water change, so I decided to see what the pH was in my brand new water... at an SG of 1.025, my pH in the new water is reading at 7.2-7.3. I'm baffled, as I thought the water change water would be at pretty ideal...

Need ph help in a hurry

Brenden, Let me know what works for you, because i am having the same problem. I used the seachem buffer (gone through a whole can), and mine will move up to 8.1, then crash back down to 7.7. Found out my salinity was real high, so perhaps you should check that... Not sure if there is a link...

    Bad Hitchhikers on Live Rock

I just got two shipments from Liverocks.com. It is beautiful rock. Not sure if I got mantis shrimp, but now have some good and bad hitchikers. Good side- Gorgeous serpent star, cool coral, feather dusters and other stuff that I discover every day. Bad side- Some aiptasia, and a couple of...

    pH problems

Thanks Malkore, In fact you were one of the Oceanic users I was thinking about, as I made my salt choice (from a number of previous SW mix thread). So, I guess I'll just keep buffering with the Sea Chem, until things settle down...

    pH problems

As always, thanks Fluff. I guess I can just assume that using the buffer to bring it up to 8.3 or so is the best thing (and safe thing )to do. Do the buffers usually hold, or do you need to keep using them? Anyone else have any pH buffers that they love? Frankly, sounds like this salt mix...

    pH problems

Hello all, I'm getting some strange water parameters with my cycle. I'm using Oceanic salt and I believe am using it in the right concentration on my 75 gallon w/ 30g fuge. Right now, my SG is at 1.023 @ 80.6 degrees. Ammonia is at 0. Nitrites at 0. And Nitrates are under 5. pH... when I...

Setup, where is the order? garf Gunk????

Wardaddy, I am in the same situation as you, and am finalizing my plans for a fuge. In my research I have run across conflicting opinions of Garf's stuff. Take a look: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/mudfiltfaq2.htm While I don't advocate any position, I think that most people will tell you that...

    low light anemonies

Hang in there, Saltwatercrazy! And don't take anything that anyone on the site says personally. Everyone here really loves this hobby, loves the wildlife, and hates to see suffering (plenty of people out there don't care). I think that people are probably more upset with the fish store, than...

    Refugium Contents?

I'll have lights down there, on a "reverse cycle," per the suggestion of the article AA has on fuges. Thanks again.

    Refugium Contents?

Hello All, With my aquarium that is currently cycling (75g), I have a DIY sump (30g), which has a small refugium that is about 4 or 5 gallons, I would guess. I've seen alot of talk of putting "Mud" in it (Ecosystems Miracle Mud and a few others). 1) What do most of you with refugiums have in...

    Very Very Confused

Were you using the damsels to cycle the tank? If so, it is my understanding that damsels have only about a 50/50 shot of surviving the cycle (and you'll hear many suggesting the more humane "fishless cycle" method). You may want to post your current water parameters, so that the experts can...

46G Oceanic Bowfront Tank and Stand for Sale- Wash DC Metro

I have a 46 gallon Oceanic Bowfront Tank and Stand for sale. Local pickup only. It's a nice tank with lots of accessories, including an Eheim "Professional" filter, undergravel filter and many many other goodies (hoses, multiple air pumps, decorations, etc.). Less than 3 years old. Just got...

    Sump Drilling Qs.

The bottom of the tank may also be tempered... which I think most are. If that is the case, I don't even think a glass company can drill. But I may be wrong. For the cost and your labor for the drilling scenario, purchasing a new tank and having it drilled, or purchasing a RR 30, may be your...

    New Sump Plans

Mike and Rob, How come you now have baffle #1 higher than the rest? I know that in Rob's sump, the last one is higher to control flow into the fuge. Rob mentioned a "waterfall" effect... Is this for higher circulation in the LR portion? Looks great, though. Good luck with it.

    Sump Diagram Update

Mike, and everyone else, Glad you have had this discussion, as I am looking to do something very similar. One question, I see that you mentioned in your diagram, that you intend to do microalgae and mangrove in the fuge. If you go significantly higher on your tank, to 11 or 12", will you...

    Bonehead move of the... Year???

I agree Mike, I don't think I would take that option, unless an AGA certified rep told me otherwise. I think I am going to have to go with the water removal and lifting the tank out... My LFS is fantastic... and I'm not sure how this hasn't happened before for them. Oy, this is...

    Bonehead move of the... Year???

Hey all, Just completed my 20G sump, and after days of runs to HD and local hardware store for plumbing and other flub-ups, I'm now ready to put in my sump, continue my cycle (tank is filled with water and shrimps are decomposing nicely) and be on my way. Get under the stand, attach my hoses...

Jermz, Here is a link to them at Drs. Foster and Smith. the fact that it has "Difficult" as the care level, makes me nervouse, as a newbie. May need a pretty mature tank. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=541 Keep us up on your progress.

    Sump and Pump Question

Not a genius in fluid dynamics, so bear with me. Simply: How do I determine equilibrium for my pump and overflow. Have a 75G reef-ready with overflow. Sump is a 20G tank with a Mag 9.5 (950GPH) pump. Placed a flow valve between pump and return to govern the return. My guess is that I...
