    Alternative feeding methods?

Thank you for that info. I hadn't considered it could be what I'm feeding them, especially because it did recently change. I was making my own gel food, with some pellets, shrimp, and other stuff, which they did seem to enjoy. But now I just feed a combination of the "tetramin tropical crips"...

    Alternative feeding methods?

Also, it may be worth noting that that opaline gourami happens to be the largest fish in the tank, at about 5 inches. Also, there's isn't any bullying or anyrhing going on, they just seem too timid to compete for any food.

    Alternative feeding methods?

I have 3 tiger barbs, a siamese algae eater, an emerald cory catfish, and a gold gourami. I also have an opaline gourami and an african featherfin leaf fish, which are the two I'm concerned about.

    How many fish?

I'm not entirely sure of how big those particular fish get, but people generally suggest that you have atleast 1 gallon of water per every inch of the fish (at their adult size). So you'd have to figure out how big each fish will get, add all of their sizes together, and make sure it doesn't...

    Alternative feeding methods?

I'm concerned that one or two of my fish may not be getting enough to eat. It seems the other fish in the tank eat all of the food before they can get any, as these two fish seem to be sort of shy and not as assertive. I have seen grazing blocks and slow release feeders. I know they are...

The capacity of the tank is an important factor. How many Gallons if water can it hold?

    Is this fish obese?

Thank you for the replies. I'm actually not sure of its sex. Also, I don't know much about the sexual nature of these fish, but I haven't had any other algae eaters fir it to mate with (if thats even how it works). I bought it atleast 4 months ago, it was always on the plump side. Its just...

    Is this fish obese?

I've done some research, bit I can't tell if my Siamese Algae Eater is overweight or not. He's very plump, and doesn't really "swim". He sort of "crawls" around the aquarium floor, although he seems pretty quick when he wants to be. Also, he seems to eat much more than any of my other fish. Is...

    How necessary is Water Testing?

Thank you for the responses. From what I gather, I should obviously atleast test the water when I notice any sudden, otherwise unexplained illness in my fish.

    How necessary is Water Testing?

I ask this here, in hopes of getting a clearer, more educated answer than that of the Petco/Petsmart associates. Ofcourse, I understand the importance of keeping tank paramiters up to par. However, assuming that: - I maintain regular water changes and gravel cleanings (35% twice per month) -...

Should I put this fish out of its misery?

This is the medication I am using. Also, my filter doesn't use activated charcoal/carbon. I'm also concerned about how his illness will affect the rest of the healthy fish and or water quality.

Should I put this fish out of its misery?

I have three tiger barbs, one of which has quite obviously gotten some sort of infection. He has, what looks to be, open sores, red inflamed gills, cloudy eyes, and one slightly inflamed eye. His behavior seems normal. I did notice some paleness before the infection. I'm halfway through the...

    Growing Food Inside the Tank:

I was wondering if anyone knew of any way to grow/raise a natural food source for small to medium sized fish inside the tank.

    Bottom Feeder eating habbits...?

I can't tell if my bottom feeders are actually eating, or if my snails or other fish are just eating everything. My bottom feeder group consists of a pictus catfish (who rarely comes outof his cave, even at night) , a Siamese algae eater, and two emerald catfish. I feed them homemade gel food...

    Alternative Fish Foods

I am interested in offering my fish an alternative diet. I've read that most fish will eat raw shrimp and clam meat, as well as green vegetables such as peas. However, I experimented with 1 littleneck clam that I chopped into chunks, and some frozen peas that I thawed in the microwave, and the...
