What Kind of Cichlid is This?

You ever feed live food? I have seen these in the feeder fish tank at the LFS more than once. They are tough little guys could have stayed in hiding while growing out. And yes it is a blue gill.

    Firemouths

Once they are free swimming you can move them. It is fun though to watch them raise the fry for a bit. They will take the whole group on outings to explore various areas of the tank. Sort of reminded me of school field trips. It was like they were teaching the little ones about different parts...

    Firemouths

I have had several generations of Firemouths. You are going to want to remove the gravel and add sand. They like to dig especially around breeding time. They will make several pits and move the babies from one pit to another. No real way to tell male and female apart. Females can show male...

What to do about weekly WC?

This made me think of how many years (Before I learned of weekly water changes) I went a month at a time without water changes and I didn't loose fish.

How well do you know Brichardis?

Yes leave it and let the community grow. I love watching how the group interacts with eachother.

    Convict ID

convicts will change from darker to lighter depending on mood nothing to do with sex. Females can even have streamers the orange color is what sets them apart.

    Feeding peacock cichlid

Something else that should be addressed is you shouldn't have just two peacocks. They live in groups and establish a pecking order. With just two one will beat the other to death. You will start to see lots of chasing if it hasn't already started. I recommend minimum group of 5.

    Cichlid ID please!

I second this. Why take them if you don't have a tank? there is no money to be made.

    Starting an aquarium maintenance business?

That is a great idea for a side job. It can turn into something full time as you get older. You definitely need insurance. Not only do you have to worry about getting blamed for fish that may die even if it wasn't your fault. You have to worry about possibly the accidental spill on priceless...

    Best KH/GH for Convicts

I would not raise it and leave it as is. The ancestors of the convicts you have, have not seen wild water in many many generations so your tap water is just fine. Fluctuation in water parameters is much more harm full than have parameters a little off and constant. Convicts have been breeding...

    Jewel Cichlid Tank

I have not owned them but they do get to be about 5" and are very territorial and very aggressive. Temperament is more like new world cichlids which I have had allot of. So given that I would not go smaller than a 40 breeder for a group.

    Yoyo loaches or cories?

I have had clown loaches and yoyo loaches. I have found I enjoy my yoy loaches more. They seem to be more active and comical. I don't know why but when I watch them they make me chuckle. plus not getting the monster size of clowns is also a plus.

    Bully Fish Problem

The moment I read Gourami I thought to my self I bet that is the bully. I find gourami's don't like there own kind or even fish with similiar shape like the serpae tetra. Remove the male and you should be fine.

Tankmates for a single convict cichlid

Since its a female I think you could do a fire mouth as well. but you might have some aggression issues just having the two of them so make sure you have different territories set up and break line of sight. It is really going to depend on the temperament of the fish. If you had a male I would...

    MAX The big jerk!!!

Looks really nice. Love the bright blue the video shows. Even if it is a Hybrid I would be proud to have a fish like that.

    Frontosa

Frontosa are slow growers what they really need for faster growth is more room. The 20 gallon will reduce the rate of growth. but the convict fry is a good source of food.

Getting the big boys back finally

Just saw a WC lyonsi pair this weekend at a LFS. Awesome fish! I wish I had the room to house such fish. The male was beating the female pretty good since they were in such small quarters.

What is the biggest cichlid pair i could get in a 90 gallon tank ?

Depends more on the temperament of the fish more than the size. What type of fish are you into? Right now I am thinking Nicaraguan pair, Severum pair, Salvini pair possibly a green terror pair. I would look more at a group of 6" fish like a group of thoricthys, acara, or Honduran red points...

    What's that fish?

The banner is photoshopped. The yellow one is a salvini or possible rock kribensis hard to tell but both are freshwater. The blue one is a blue damsel, saltwater

Most interesting FW puffer for 75g or less?

I agree with the above except SAP's aren't for the novice puffer keeper they are very difficult to keep. Unfortunately smaller fresh water puffers aren't personable all the ones you can keep in a 75 are ambush predators they sit half buried most of the day except feeding time. Brackish isn't...

    Jag in a 75?

You tire me out LOL. Read very carefully Nobody is talking about a 20" fish. I used the example 12" a 12" jag PAIR is to big for a 75 period. I am not going to give you more reasons becasue you aren't going to listen. Stunted fish will still grow. 12" aggressive jag is to big. If you want...

Sevrum breeding every time I remove carbon

Are you doing water changes when you remove the carbon? Water changes especial with temp changes has been knowing to spark fish into breeding.

    Jag in a 75?

There are so many awesome options for a 75. No need to cram two in. If you really do like them get the female. I want a nice big jag myself but I don't have one because right now my largest tanks are 75's.

    New tank cichlid tank possibly?

If you are doing peacocks you really need to be careful how you mix genders to curb aggression and death. You could do 1 maybe 2 males and a bunch of females or a group of males of different colors. Females are typically brown/grey. Most people do a group of males because it just looks better...
