    Driftwood from the lake

Okay, but they're too big to boil.

    Driftwood from the lake

I've gathered some lovely driftwood today from a nearby lake. Some of it is quite large, I'd say at least four feet long. I'm not really worried about tannins. The fish I want to keep would feel quite at home with tannins in the water, but I am worried about parasites and unsavory bacteria and...

    Mixing up feeding time

Sea monkeys really are just glorified brine shrimp! Plus they're super cheap.

    Is this an Amazonian sword?

I just realized I shouldn't have posted this here. I'm sorry. I don't know how to remove it. :(

    Mixing up feeding time

I like to go with brine shrimp for snacks because its easy to get live ones. You can get sea monkey kits at Walmart! And the fish go crazy for them.

    Is this an Amazonian sword?

Is this an Amazonian sword? My husband bought it as a bulb. The package didn't I.D. it. I'm curious about the plant in the foreground. All the other are plastic.

    Rene's new 55 gal aquarium

I totally get that! We're living paycheck to paycheck, but I couldn't pass up on the deal I got for my aquarium. I have such a cool idea what I'm looking for, but so far, I don't even have substrate! Looks like better times on the horizon though! Hopefully for you too. :)

Oooooh! It's so cool to get a bigger tank!

    My husband's new puppy

Isn't that interesting how dogs can vary so much? The puppy we're keeping looks like a shi tsu or poodle, but her sister looks like a beagle!

    Lighting help please

Me too! Though it will be a while. I can only buy a little bit a week, so it'll be a few months before I can really get started, but I think it'll be worth the wait! Of course, if I get that job painting a mural in a local cave museum, the money from that will probably cover it nicely!

    Lighting help please

I'll be using metricide 14 instead of pressurized co2. I will also use eco complete substrate and dry fertilizers. And a big thanks to Rivercars for suggesting those things. After further research I really believe that'll work best for me.

    Lighting help please

Well, I've been narrowing down my research and I think I'd like to go with medium light plants. But I heard the wpg rule doesn't work for bigger tanks. I'm getting a 75 gallon tank. What kind of wattage do I need? What kind of bulbs should I use? Also, I'd like to cover the substrate with a...

    Overwhelmed

I think what I'd really love for my 75 gallon tank is a beautiful green garden inhabited by schools of tetras. (I've always wanted neons in paticular.) My problem is total inexperience. I have never kept aquatic plants and to be honest, I'm overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information out...

    My husband's new puppy

This is a picture of my daughter with my husband's new puppy. He named her Bagheera. Can you believe he found this little darling and her sister ( who looks like a beagle) along a busy road? They can't be more than six weeks old! Even though we are only permanently keeping one, her sister will...

I'm not exactly new to fish keeping, but I know there's a lot I can still learn.

That's true with any pet! I love animals and fortunately, I thouroly enjoy research about all kinds of pets too.

I'm having a hard time deciding. I've never been able to keep big fish before, so maybe cichlids. On the other hand, I've always loved my tiny fish and I think I'd be cool to have large schools of two or three different kinds. It's so hard to choose.
