Ok, i need to add more info. On the 15th after i added the filter media my nitrite readings were sky high and hardly any ammonia. Then nitrites were 0 (didn't have master kit at the time, didn't know nitrates) then everything was 0 except for ammonia because i had used flakes in a mesh bag...

Ammonia is 0.4 and nitrites are 0.2 and nitrates are around 6 or 7 --- KIDDING! Tested nitrates yesterday and it was that, just tested now and it's a HUGE 70ppm! What the hell?!! .. (Take note, i have 0 ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate in my tap water) So, would a pleco be able to live in these...

I was doing a fishless cycle, but i have the chance to pick up a bristlenose today so i was just wondering if it would be okay to do that, if i did water changes every other day. I have an anubias with algae on it and a big rock with a lot of algae as well plus algae wafers i've never used...

I wouldn't be able to get a bristle nose pleco now, would i? Or are they too sensitive to the nitrites converting to nitrates?

I already have a master kit and it did go through that.

I'd never do that. I would do a silent cycle but i can't go paying $8 a plant and get a ton. Ill find a way, i guess

Let me start off by saying i've created several threads and wish i could delete. Just thought i should put my problems in this one post. On the 8th i started cycling my 30G - used fish food and the ammonia went up along with nitrites. Added filter media on the 15th then nitrites were decreasing...

Wouldnt i just be able to vacuum over the sand? lol Think i'll stick with the silica sand

Checked the home depot site for sand but this is what i found - Quikrete | Playsand 30kg | Home Depot Canada I think i might just stick with the filter sand lol

I was thinking about putting enough for it to be 1-2 inches high. This sand is coming in a 50lb bag lol So just keep rinsing and rinsing until it's crystal clear? Sounds good! Very happy i finally found sand i can use!

got it down to 0.6ppm today and i'm going to try and find ammonia once again tomorrow.. if not i don't know what i'm going to use

I've never seen this sand before so is it just white?

Didn't think so, i live in Canada. If that makes a difference lol
