    Kh

The last time he changed water was a month ago. He uses the nutrafin HK test and I have tested it with a newer test from the same brand and got the same results as him.

    Kh

My friend has a 55 gallon reef with 8 small fish, 60# of LR, 2, 150W halide ... His KH is bouncing from 180 - 90 in 5 days. What could cause this to happen? How can he regulate his KH? All of his corals are dying with the exception of a sun coral and yellow fiji leather which are...

    KH Issue

pH: 8.3 NO2: 0.1 NO3: 5 Today the KH was 11, Magnesium 1600 and Calcium 600 from adding everything to try to get the KH up. Sigh. He's new to SPS and is losing the birdsnest he's had for about 2 weeks. All of the fish, LPS and soft corals look fine. This is all a sudden problem.

    KH Issue

I just did some research and you're right about the target alkalinity. We read elsewhere that the target should be between 12-14 and aimed for that for the past few (years, lol.) Any ideas as to why the SPS are dying? Lights: 2, 250W halides, (4) 65W actinics. Plenty of flow. All other...

    Coral woes continue...

How is your water flow? Cyano tends to cling to dead areas in the tank where there isn't much water movement. I don't feed my soft corals either, however I occasionally see a mushroom grab a piece of brine when I target feed nearby corals! I don't know if this is true for all mushrooms but mine...

    Adding Corals

I agree with Ziggy, I have added numerous corals at a time and never had a problem.

    KH Issue

A friend of mine has a 90 gallon reef. The tank is well established but he is all of a sudden running into a KH problem. Every time he tests his KH he gets a reading of 9, (90). He is adding Seachem's Reef Builder (1 tsp/40 gal) so 2 tsp at least 3x week and his KH never reads differently...

    Fungia Fragging Disaster?

They look a lot better today. I did what you suggested, moving the flow. They have opened up and the tissue looks like it's trying to heal in a few places. Thanks!!!:hat:

    Fungia Fragging Disaster?

So a few years back I purchased a zoanthid colony that had grown over an acro's skeleton. This little fungia plate sprouted off of the zoanthid colony and started to grow rapidly. Since them I have fragged many off of that same spot when they reach the size of a quarter and they usually snap...

    Lobster Question

Potentially. I've read books that call them "Reef Lobsters" but I've heard lots of stories about small gobies, blennies and other invertebrates dissappearing when Lobsters are around. I've never personally kept one though.

    Achilles Tang Info

The reason there are fish in the 75 is because last weekend my 50 gallon tank sprung a massive leak and I had to rush out and pick up a new tank, stand, etc. I saved almost all of the water from my old tank, moved all my rock/corals and then acclimated my fish to the new tank. What else was I...

    Achilles Tang Info

I may be aquiring an Achillies Tang in the near future and I was wondering if anyone out there has had any luck or experience with keeping these guys. He will be going into my recently upgraded 75 gallon tank when it is fully cycled, etc. So far I have a hippo tang and two green chromis in...

    Coraline Algae will not grow!

Thanks for all of your help. I always use RO water and I just tested the PO4 from the unit and it is reading 0. I only had 20 gallons of RO last night and I did a water change with that ... today the PO4 is reading 0.5. Hopefully I can keep it this low and finally get some coraline to grow...

    Breeding betta questions

I have been doing some research and I'm thinking about breeding my bettas. I read that the best food for the free-swimming fry would be along the lines of paramecium, I also read that the fry cannot eat baby brine shrimp until they are 1 week of age. What do I need to culture my own...

Someone came to me with a question I could not answer! black ich?

Hey guys, As you know I work at a LFS and we have a 180gal. with Jurupari, Blood Parrots, Gold Severums and a few catfish ... I noticed black spots on the Jurupari, on the face and on the pectoral fins close to the fish's body. Is this black ich? I also heard it was caused by worms that live...

    Sun Coral won't eat!

He just doesn't open up, I've tried blowing food past it and even gone as far as shoving bits of krill onto him and no matter what he never opens up fully...like in the pictures, I've never seen his yellow "sun" open up! This is depressing. I just turned it over and noticed the bottom polyps...

    Sun Coral won't eat!

Okay, he is placed on the sand bed under a ledge of LR in a shady spot with moderate flow. My first attempt at feeding him was in a dark bucket of water with PhytoPlex. I soon realized that he doesn't eat that ... so I tried brine shrimp, nothing. My next attempt was leaving him in the tank...
