When to add guppy fry to community tank

Well, this is a philosophical question then :) That was nice of you to save them, but have in mind they reproduce that much exactly because they are natural preys, rather than predators. Also, you will probably find newborns for months in a row even after you have separated males, because...

    Preferred time to born?

ahahah! that's true! lunch time! I was used to save them. Last times, I removed fries one by one as soon I spotted them in the morning. But this time, even if I wanted, my black molly is voracious!! She drops, turns and eats... I decided to leave it "in natura" this time, because I'm...

    Preferred time to born?

Hello guys, Right now I'm watching my black molly giving birth (15h pm here). The last three times I had fries in my tank, I spotted them in the morning only. So, both guppies and mollies were giving birth overnight... Do you guys think livebearers are more likely to give birth at night? Or it...

When to add guppy fry to community tank

I released my fries to the main tank after 5 months, but the fit-in-mouth rule is more relevant than time. Some grow faster than others. I have fries that were born together, but after 5 weeks the difference of size among them make looks like they are from complete different generations! :blink...

    Fishes eating shrimp food

I feed my fishes flake food twice a day. My RCS are fed tiny pellets every other day. Well, my RCS spend the whole day eating from the bottom, but those pellets are said (by LFS) to have special nutrients to help them molt. My problem is that my fishes are voracious mollies and guppies!! As...

    Suicidal otocinclus?

Thanks guys. At least now I'm not that much worried about leaving this guy alone for while. Maybe I'll get more very soon, but better to wait for my tank to establish. I'm having trouble to keep Bacopas (yes, I know, it was suppose to be easy :( ), then I'm injecting CO2 to see what happens...

Diy 10 g tank stand anyone got plans for a nice one?

Well, if you are trying to recycle some wood you already have, I suggest this very simplistic furniture plan as reference, because of low needs of material: Ana White | Build a Benchright Farmhouse Bench | Free and Easy DIY Project and Furniture Plans I had a broken slatted bed base like this...

    Getting driftwood in Europe

Hello guys, I think most of collaborators here are from North America, right? Well, I have seem some posts from people abroad, so I decided to make this question anyway... maybe someone can help me (and this is the best English-speaking aquarium forum I have found so far :thumb: ) I was looking...

    Suicidal otocinclus?

Hello guys, I've got 3 otos around 7 weeks ago. Two of them were swimming together most of time, while the 3rd one never looked so happy. He was staying on top of filters, plants, gravel etc most of time, without so much activity. I have barely seem him eating... and he was always getting stuck...

    Red Cherry Shrimp dropping eggs

What I have read somewhere is that if there are eggs, so the female was fertilized. So, no males would mean no eggs at all. But that's just what I have read, and I have only 10 days of experience with shrimps...

    Red Cherry Shrimp dropping eggs

Oh, sorry my delay. I didn't remember to have received a notification of replies. :) My mistake. The water quality was good, I think, except for the hard water: pH around 7.5 nitrites 0 nitrates < 20 (don't have a test for ammonia :() kH around 15dKH Unfortunately, this kH is what I get from...

    Ick?

I don't think 10 day is too much, but I have never done a temperature treatment. The period between falling from fishes, reproducing in the gravel and looking for new hosts depends pretty much on the temperature. Higher temperature, faster the process. Ick is only vulnerable in this last step...

Ich Attack!!!!!! (Cichlid and goldie tank.)

"Unlike some common table salt, kosher salt typically contains no additives such as iodine, although some brands will include anticlumping agents in small amounts." (source: Kosher salt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) Usually, salt additives are not concentrated enough to harm fishes. I...

Anormal feeding (and pooping) behavior in Guppy

Well, she passed away. :( I have a dead fish and a girlfriend crying right now. :( Maybe it was best for my Guppy. Unlike the other fishes, she has never looked happy and healthy in this tank.

Pregnant Guppy Has Huge Thing Protruding from Anal Cavity

Keep an eye on her. I have just had a bad experience with big poo from my female Guppy. It could be a constipation, but it can be a consequence of something serious... I don't know exactly, because I most probably couldn't save mine. Check these as reference, to compare their behaviors...

Anormal feeding (and pooping) behavior in Guppy

After some peas (I gave them, but I'm almost sure she didn't eat it) she got back her normal size. She was still behaving weird until yesterday, most of time just staying on the bottom, with her belly almost touching the gravel. Sometimes she would swim around, slowly, but not eating at all...

    Live food: maggots?

    1) I have thought about it. Even if I don't use any pesticide, herbicide etc, it could happen that this ground already came with something... 2) Haven't thought about it at all!! Agree, fish food is cheap :) I asked because it doesn't happen so often to have fresh live food at home...

Ich Attack!!!!!! (Cichlid and goldie tank.)

Hello, I have otocinclus and they are "known" to be sensitive to salt... Since you are worried about your loaches, I just wanted to tell you my good experience with salt treatment... even with otocinclus in my tank. I slowly dissolved salt in the tank (not directly!!) during 3 days until...

    ick battle

I have successfully applied treatment with salt in the past, with no loss. I raised the temperature to 26°C just to speed up the process, since I have some otos in my tank and I didn't want them to stay so long in that salty water... (but this temperature, as you know, isn't enough to eliminate...

    Ick?

If it's ick (it looks like), it's important to keep the temperature for at least 3 days even after the spots are gone. I have heard that some strains of ick are resistant to up to 90F, so keep an eye on it, because in this case 86F would end up accelerating the process but not killing it. I...

    New tank ideas

Personally, I would prefer hundreds of small fishes instead of few big ones. :) Dozens of Green neon tetra, dozens of Serpae tetra,... species schooling in every corner... priceless!! ah, heavily planted as well!!

    Live food: maggots?

I have some plants at home (not aquarium) and especially in this season it's common to find tiny insect larvae under the humid dead leaves on the ground. These white tiny larvae look ... delicious... for a Timon and Pumbaa, or maybe for fishes, but I never know whether they are safe enough for...

    Female Molly behaving like male

Hello guys! Just for record, I would like to post the actual picture + comparison just for future reference. This molly was sold as a female. She looked grown already when she came home. She started getting so fat that for few weeks I thought she was pregnant. Then, it happened that "her" anal...

Anormal feeding (and pooping) behavior in Guppy

That was my first thought. Tried to give her peas already. My fishes like it a lot (even my shrimps, I hope it's ok for them), but this girl just bites and spits it out again :ermm:
