Need new filter for 30g tank - BEST FILTER?

As of now, I am planning on buying the AquaClear 70. This has fantastic reviews on-line and seems to offer the flexibility to filter a 50 gallon tank if I decide to upgrade my current 30g. Any final protests??

Need new filter for 30g tank - BEST FILTER?

I would like to stick with hang on back I think. These Aquaclear reviews seem fantastic. Amazon has it for 49.99. However, isn't the "next step up"/even better filter brand Fluval? An HOB Fluval C3 is $50.00 on Amazon. Thoughts/debates? Thanks

Need new filter for 30g tank - BEST FILTER?

Hey guys, I have just about had it with my current filter (Aqua-Tech 20-40) and it seems to be hitting the fan in its life. So I am looking to replace it. First of all, are they are "obvious/must buy" brands/models that I should just stop looking immediately and get it? I'm not looking for...

Starting a new tank - can I use old tank materials?

Hey all, I currently have a 30 gallon tank that is over 2 years old and already "established" with great levels upon water testing. I just purchased a 10 gallon tank for my bedroom, complete with a new filter and heater. Right now I don't have any gravel, declarations, or fish in there, just the...

    Changing Filter Media

Hey guys, so I know it's not good to change the filter pad because you'll be throwing away the beneficial bacteria; however, my current filter pad has been in there about 6 months now and even when I do a partial water change, swish the filter pad around in the old water to "cleanse" it a bit...

Fish keep ending up in the filter!

Hello all. I recently un-stocked my fish tank and then re-stocked it. My previous fish had been dying because they were all community fish mixed in with a larger Red Tail Shark. I have a 30 gallon tank and a Marineland Filter (I believe it is 200 gph, but not positive. I can check if necessary)...

    Marineland Filter and "Carbon" Change??

Hello all. So as usual, I am slowly learning from mistake after mistake and beginning to get a better understanding of this whole thing you all call a "relaxing hobby" haha. Anyways, for a long time I was under the impression to follow the manufacturers advice on my Marineland filter pads and...

    water changer

Can you post a link to the exact model you are talking about? Very interested, as I have a 30g tank and currently use a Vacuum type hose/filter but empty into 5g Home Depot bucket. Dump in sink. Fill up bucket. Dump in tank. Clean up all the water I spilled. Repeat next weekend haha. Thanks!

    death tank.

Sorry to take over the thread, but quick question: How often should one be changing the filter pad. And when you do, is there a "correct method" so that you try to retain as much of the beneficial bacteria as possible? Does that make any sense? Thanks

    Water change SUPPLIES

Yes, already have a gravel vac. Just ordered 500mL of Seachem Prime. Can't wait to try it out, not sure why I haven't asked this before. Now I just need to figure out why I can't get my smaller schooling fish to survive and I'll be set haha

    Water change SUPPLIES

Hello all. I am running out of my current supply of water change supplies and would like your input as to the "best" method of ensuring that my fish are in healthy water. I have a 30 gallon tank and perform a 5 gallon water exchange every weekend (including vacuuming the gravel, not just...

Help Me ID My Fish! Any problems?

So after a long hiatus (big exam that required months of studying), I am finally ready to get back into the fish game. Only problem, I still have that **** Red Tail Shark. And during my time off studying, it has literally killed every fish in the tank except for the Dennison (and the pleco). So...

Help Me ID My Fish! Any problems?

Oh no, big problem. So I woke up today to feed the fish and as usual, was looking around to find my Ram who is always hiding (typically in the top corner behind the heater). Except today, he was nowhere to be found. Then, I check my filter and it was not flowing "thoroughly" and had a very weak...

Help Me ID My Fish! Any problems?

Ahh, bummer about the Denison barb. I think I'll keep it in my tank for a bit longer and then try to figure it out (possibly see if the LFS will "trade" for it). Regardless, I will be going on Monday afternoon to give them my Red Tail Shark, along with the random community fish. Any takers on...

Help Me ID My Fish! Any problems?

Can't thank you enough. I'll put up pictures and video when I get back tonight, no problem at all. I just googled the fish that were mentioned and I actually am pretty sure that they are scissor tail rasboras (only because that name sounds familiar when I bought them at the store). But I will...

Help Me ID My Fish! Any problems?

Thanks a lot for the quick reply. I will try to take more pictures tonight and post them, so please stay tuned. Also, that's a bummer to hear about the Red Tail Shark, he was definitely one of my favorites and I've had him the entire time from day 1. He's definitely gotten bigger throughout the...

Help Me ID My Fish! Any problems?

Sorry guys, I have been monitoring this forum for awhile and finally decided to post. I have had my 30 gallon freshwater aquarium for about 9 months now and really have learned a lot (mostly through mistakes unfortunately, but hey, it's the best way to learn). Anyways, now that I am finally...
