Firemouth Cichlid Not Eating / Hiding

Thanks for the input. I'll bring him to work tomorrow to go in my 46g. The tank at work is pretty quiet with just a pair of medium sized angels and a clow pleco (my signature is way out of date). I'll see how he does with the angels and if it doesn't work out then I'll bring him back to the...

Firemouth Cichlid Not Eating / Hiding

I bought 3 juvenile Firemouth Cichlids a couple of weeks ago. They were all initially doing really well, but one of them (one of the smaller ones) has since stopped eating and rarely comes out of hiding. The other two are thriving, are active, and eat like pigs. I haven't seen anyone picking on...

    Reliable Driftwood Sources

I've been thinking of getting some driftwood to add to my tank, but for some reason I'm really nervous about getting some. Growing up, my dad always had at least one tank running and now I have my own. Neither of us have ever used driftwood before, but I love how it looks. I guess my nervousness...

    Is this ICH?!?!

Sounds like you're going in the right direction. When I use the heat method to treat Ich, I do keep the temps up for at least a week after I see the last spot. I like to go an extra couple of days just for more piece of mind. :)

    Fish id.

Looks like an upside down catfish.

    Is this ICH?!?!

This is how I understand the cycle of Ich, someone please correct me if I'm wrong. That water temp needs to be at least 86° to succesfully start killing the Ich off. Until you reach that temp, all the warmer water does is promote the reproduction cycle. So, since you're not quite at 86° yet...

    Pwc?

You have nitrates listed twice in the above post. Is it nitrItes or nitrAtes that are testing at 10 or 20? Have you ever had an ammonia reading?

    Another Switching to Sand Thread

I've been toying with the idea of switching to sand for a while now, but still have some concerns. I'm worried about the cycle crashing once the gravel has been removed and fresh sand has been placed in. I'm really nervous about losing fish during the process. Is this a valid concern or will...

    Can I Get More?

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I'll leave my tank as it is for now and hope that I get a good pairing out of the trio. :) At about 8 years of age, I think that my Sailfin Pleco is full grown. It has plenty of space in my 75. I did read up on them once I got an accurate name for it (the pet...

    Can I Get More?

I purchased three new juvenile Firemouth Cichlids last weekend and I'm already in love with them. They range in about 1.5 - 2" right now. I'd like to get more to ensure I get at least one male/female pair. I just don't know if I'm already at my limit right now. What do you think? Here's what...

    Firemouth Cichlids

Thanks for the input. I ended up getting 3 of them. From what I'm gathering online, it's nearly impossible to sex them until they actually spawn so time will tell what I've got. Of the three I got, there are two that are about 1.5" long and they spend a lot of time together. The third is larger...

    Firemouth Cichlids

I have a 75 gallon tank which had a huge die off several months ago. I lost several of my favorite fish including my Ropefish, my favorite one eyed Yoyo Loach, my favorite Dojo Loach, several Tiger Barbs, and more. I have no clue what happened, but my remaining fish (all bottom feeders) are...

Unfortunately, the little guy died the night I posted this. :( I still have no clue what was wrong with it.

    Sick Dojo Loach

Yes, I use Seacham Prime when I do my water changes. I do have a bubble wall at the back of the tank. The lump isn't colored or anything. It's almost like it swallowed a small jelly bean or something. There's no fungus, cotton, etc. It's more like it's swollen or something. I will try to get a...

    Sick Dojo Loach

The 46 gallon tank in my signature is where I work so it's hard for me to stay on top of maintainence. As I'm sure many of you are also effected by this economy I was as well. I lost a person in my department which means I have even more responsibility which just adds to the difficulties in...

    Guppy Not Doing Well

She's not sitting on the gravel anymore. She seems to be getting around a little bit better although you can clearly see that she's still not right. She still seems to be breathing heavily and she's not very graceful about swimming. Her abdomen is still red and now there's a white string hanging...

    Guppy Not Doing Well

I wasn't sure if this should go here or in the unhealthy fish forum, but since it's related to giving birth I'm posting here. One of my females who was noticeably pregnant a day or so ago is now looking very poorly. She's staying on the gravel and not really swimming around all that much. She...

    Guppy Fry

Fromthelbc, thanks. I'm not to concerned about the parents eating the fry. I know that they'll breed like crazy so if they want to help keep the numbers down that's ok. :) joy13, thanks, that's what I was looking for. I just didn't want to unintentionally kill them by moving them prematurely...

    Guppy Fry

I currently have several guppies in a 10 gallon which are currently in QT. Once they pass QT they'll be moved into my 75 gallon where they'll be free to make as many babies as they want. I have Angelfish and other fish that will enjoy having a live food source (although I do still feel kind of...

    Live Food Questions

Thanks for the input. I acclimated them using the drop method into my 10 gallon. One of the males has already died! So now, I'm left with 1 male and 4 females.

    Live Food Questions

I probably should've asked this before buying. I always research before I buy, but this time I cracked. :( I just got 2 male and 4 female Guppies which I'll be moving to my 75 gallon tank once they pass the QT period. Is this a good number and in your experience, once they start breeding do...
