well judging by the information between the bichir and the angelfish, it seems it could work. the only problem I find with angelfish though is once they pair off the tank turns into... bickering central. I don't know how much problem that would be in a 100+ gallon tank with all that room though...

Angelfish are very sedate fish so you'd be good to go with other sedate, gentle fish. Non-agressive catfish (idk about cories because they're hyper) You'll want calm ones. Loaches Theres some tetras that are decent but no names are coming to mind, you'll have to look. i think diamond tetras...

I would say no... The leopards can get up to 6" and will eat anything it can fit into it's mouth and even stalk the prey.

Just do a large water change before you leave. Fish can go WEEKS before they start to 'starve'. -leaves other questions for other people-

if it is sap, chances are it is also softwood. if this is the case... NO. You should only use hardwoods (oak, maple, ash, elm or hickory) for your aquarium. The sap and pitch in the softwoods can create a syrupy mess in your tank. Softwoods decay a LOT easier than hardwoods as well...

You'll want to use plain distilled white vinegar. I know people use it on power heads as well. You can dilute it with water or just use it straight from the jug.

I've been told lately canister filters are the best for larger aquariums. Amazon, ebay, sites like that have them for cheap. Just my 2 cents. :)
