For Sale or trade: Canister Filters and rocks

I'm moving away from freshwater and in to saltwater. As a result, I no longer have a need for the canister filters. Here's what I have: $75 - Rena Filstar Xp1 $100 - Eheim Ecco 2236 Both of them are right at 1 year old. Weekly maintenance has been done since purchase (including keeping the...

New to SW: Help me set it up, please!

Alright, I think I'm getting close! - Going to run a DIY setup of 3 10k F54T5 and 3 actinic - Going to build a DIY PVC overflow using 1 1/4" (should handle 600GPH easily) - Going to go with 2 Hydor Koralia PH's to give me about 2000GPH - I have a good idea on the skimmer, but just need to...

New to SW: Help me set it up, please!

Thanks Thom! Those lights look very familiar to what I used to look at for my planted freshwater. I decided to go DIY, though. Is there a WPG rule of thumb that you shoot for with SW (I think we will do FOWLR; at least starting out)? I'm pretty sure I'm going to DIY the lighting if I'm not going...

New to SW: Help me set it up, please!

I've been a member here for quite a while (though inactive). I've always had FW tanks, though. I tore down my planted 75g and it has sat dormant in the garage for over 2 years. I've decided I want to get a SW tank running now. I've done my research and I BELIEVE I know what I need equipment...

    One-eyed oranda...

I've got a Ryunkin with only one eye. He was in an outdoor barrel pond and ended up with some sort of disease (highly resembled HITH). His left eye just slowly rotted away to nothing. He's now got an empty area that looks exactly as you described. Happened about 2 years ago. He was maybe 2" from...

    Rocks

You could also do the muriatic acid test. Pour a little bit of the acid on a sample and if it fizzes or bubbles, you probably don't want to use it.

    RC Helicopters

I picked up the Air Hogs "toy" (HavocHeli) to play around with while I was in Las Vegas. I was rather surprised! It flies very well and is pretty much indestructible (my 3 and 5 year olds can fly it). It runs on 6 AA batteries in the transmitter and a 50mah LiPo battery (included) in the heli...

Ambulia clippings for trade/cost of shipping

Sorry all. I didn't have enough interest to keep my "farm" going. I ended up removing (and trashing) all but a few stems. It will take at least a couple of weeks to establish enough for a good harvest. I'll post back when I have a harvest (and this time Stargrass, Dwarf Sag, and a few Crypts...

Ambulia clippings for trade/cost of shipping

Ambulia, and tons of it. The stuff is a weed! I haven't clipped it yet, so I'll take custom "orders" (up to 12" per stem). It would be nice to get in on a clipping trade so that I can start offering other plants at prune time, but I'll also get rid of this stuff at the cost of shipping ($4.55...

FS: 1 or 2 Juvenile Bristlenose Pleco - LOCAL PICKUP PREFER

I think my 75 gallon tank has too much bio load in terms of Pleco's. 4 juvenile BN's and an adult Clown... Anyway, I'll sell one or two I've attached a few pictures. These guys are probably 1.5" and just starting to form bristles. I'm not sure of sex. I raised them from fry and are very...

    FS: Ambulia

I am clipping my Ambulia about 3 times a week now. I have 25 stems at about 6". If you want some Ambulia at a different length, let me know how much and at what length and I'll clip it fresh for you. I am asking $10 for a good sized shipment (typically 6 stems at 6" a piece). This includes the...

    Fun with pressurized CO2

I'm not too keen on these types of things, but I very recently made a few "automations" on my tank: A few timers: $40 A large power strip: $20 2 NEW Eheim Liquidosers from Craigslist: $75 1 NEW Eheim Auto Feeder from Craigslist: $25 No more forgetting to turn the lights on, no more leaving the...

How many pet stores in your city and your cities population?

Rockwall, Texas (East Dallas). Just moved here so I'm not sure of the population to date. As of 2000, it was just under 18,000. In town we have a Walmart (worth nothing), PetCo (worth nothing), and a Petsmart (where I shop). No LFS. Nearest is probably a 20 or 30 minute drive, depending on traffic.

    Acrylic Aquarium Cover

I wonder what that material would be. You could look for cell-cast acrylic, but that's significantly more than the typical extruded acrylic. Go and look at Lexan. It's like acrylic, but is thicker and stronger, in my experience. I think it will work for you. It's just a tad more expensive than...

    Help with duckweed please

I snuffed mine out. Used a net to get as much as possible. I then gave my tank a week-long blackout and netted the remaining. Over the next week, during normal operation, I watched for rogue duckweed and pulled it. It never came back.

Ketso's Tank Log - New plants, New pic(04-15-2007)

Just my opinion, I don't like the driftwood up on point like that. Looks.... different. But ya know, different is a good thing. ;) Rest of the tank is wonderful!

    My DIY Light Fixture.

Couple of notes to consider when designing your new one. Your installed plexi looks to be good, but I would watch for warpage over time. I think you use the attachment hardware close enough that you won't have a problem though. I personally opted for a glass, sliding top. On my 75 gal, I have...

    Compact Fluorescent DYI

I'll just add to the foil part. Buy a 99 cent can of high gloss white spray paint from Lowes/Home Depot. It will be 100x better than tin foil. Even if you somehow iron the tin foil flat, it won't be as effective. Mirror (as mentioned) is probably a step better than white paint. I vaguely...

    Acrylic Aquarium Cover

Acrylic, in general, isn't really a top choice for making a top. Glass is typically the preferred choice. In fact, I don't think I've ever personally seen an acrylic tank top in any size. Hmmm.

    RC Helicopters

Hehehe, gassers! Electrics are much cheaper (but still expensive, don't get me wrong), smaller, quieter, and becoming more popular. I can fly my chopper in my living room, in my backyard, in a school gym, at the park, or at the club field. With gassers, you're pretty much limited to designated...

    RC Helicopters

I'll chime in as another RC hobby dude. I fly electric only, but fly both plane and heli. I have a Centrury Hummingbird heli. I believe the ARF (Almost Ready to Fly) kit was just under $200. It's been a pretty solid heli and parts are readily available to me local. I would check out a Heli sim...
