Nitrate Removal Media (high nitrates in tap)

Would this work in Fluval C4? On Chewy.com it says this is for canister filters. Any reason this would not work in a Fluval C4 Chemical Media Holder that they say to use charcoal in ... (Currently I run Purigen in there)? Thanks

    Re-starting a new 29 gallon tank-hopefully no cycle time

Thanks ... you're right. I even have a test kit that I rarely use because my parameters always check out fine. My problem is that I'm pretty much color blind and have to have a friend do it. That being said, I'll take your advice.

    Which filter to choose?

I have a Fluval C4 my 29 gallon and it's fantastic. Keeps the water crystal clear and it's very quiet. Fluval and Aquaclear are made by the same company and use the same motor. The Fluval gives far superior filtration compared to the aquaclear. See my post #2 here...

    Re-starting a new 29 gallon tank-hopefully no cycle time

I have had two freshwater aquariums for several years, one 29 gallon with a HOB Fluval C4 filter and 38 gallon with two Fluval C3 filters. The 29 gallon "sprung a leak" ... and rather than try to repair it, I put the all the fish in the from the 29 gallon into the 38 gallon tank ... and put the...

Heater for 29 gallon tropical freshwater aquarium

My understanding is that 150 watts should do and the submersible is best. I found this one and would like any comments or suggestions. Orlushy Submersible Aquarium Heater with Adjust Knob Thermostat, 2 Suction Cups and Free Thermometer...

    Which Filter?

If sparkling crystal clear water means anything to you, go with the Fluval C series. They are made by the same company that makes AquaClear but do a much better job of filtering water. The AquaClear sponge is too coarse and about the only way to get an AquaClear to "polish" the water is to use...

    Seachem Purigen

It does not completely remove nitrates .... but it does help reduce them. You should still do weekly water changes to keep nitrates in check [and siphoning/vacuuming of gravel if you don't have lots of plants]. You do not have to buy Purigen and the bag separately. It is also sold in 100 ml...

    Aquaclear vs fluval c series

C series is far superior to AquaClear. I have (had) both This issue has been "beat to death" over the years. Go here to my post #2 http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f12/c4-vs-aquaclear-335126.html or here to my posts 29, 35 & 36...

    Purigen holder??

    1) Yes, as noted above, Purigen is great for crystal clear water but it is NOT for removing particles. 2) Massive amounts of "bio-balls" or other beneficial bacteria media do NOT increase the amount of beneficial bacteria in a tank. The bacteria does get spread over a larger surface area but...

    Help with Algae

I had a "BBA soap opera" as well. A few years ago I had a classic BBA disaster caused by multiple issues as I described in post #7 in this thread: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f12/bba-problem-311191.html I agree with the advice given so far and for me, increasing water changes...

    Fluval C-series filters

My 1st C3 was horribly noisy-but became silent in about 3 weeks How long have you had your C series? I think it's luck of the draw ..... which is still inexcusable. My second C3 came silent out of the box. My C4 is extremely quiet but not silent. While these filters do a great job, I find...

    Gap Between Tank and Stand

This is a univeral problem with Aqueon It appears this company has gone down hill. " My 38 gallon 2011 model fell apart under its own weight and "broke on the top two plastic pieces" and then leaked out in 2016. The original pump was worthless from Day1. I now have 40 fish in the same...

    Can't Control This Aggressive Algae!

The only chemical I use in my tanks is Seachem Purigen which helps with nitrates along with other benefits and therefore helps control algae. I know nothing about Fourish Excel but it seems to me anything that would help plants would just make an algae problem worse. I too have no live plants...

    Can't Control This Aggressive Algae!

Good luck. I had to "start over" My BBA problem was due to multiple causes and explained here in my post 7 http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f12/bba-problem-311191.html The filter was clogged with it and my artificial plants were covered with it. I threw both away and "started...

    Please Help, I'm Desperate !

Chloraminime may be the problem-it takes three days to remove I do not have chloramine (just chorine) which takes 24 hours of "standing out in the air." I use the same Walmart plastic "garbage cans" (actually white "paint buckets" for which you can purchase lids) that you do and put warm water...

    Best HOB filter?

On an aquarium that big, if you don't have two filter intakes, you're likely to have "dead spots" with only one filter. I'd go with two C4"s or a C4 and a canister.

    Fluval C4 loud!

For what it's worth, one of my two C3's had a very annoying noisy rattle for about three weeks and then it disappeared !!!!!!! Right now both my C3's are virtually silent. My C4 is very quiet but not silent .... all I hear is a very quiet hum which I assume is the motor. It makes no...

    Fluval or AquaClear

Fluval C's make aquaclear obsolete They're both made by Fluval. Same motor part #'s even. Go here and see my post #11 http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f60/what-is-the-best-hob-filter-138948-2.html or here and see my post #7...

New home - new water source

Some fish are more sensitive; a 20ppm read is fine Rethink the Importance of Aquarium Water Changes Unless you are keeping Discuss or other sensitive breeds, you are fine. I keep my tanks in the 30-40 range due to expense and trouble of using R/O & bottled water and both my tanks and my...

    Losing the BBA battle

I had the "perfect storm" to cause BBA outbreak. I wasn't just losing ...... I lost due to multiple causes. Threw out filter and plastic plants and started over. Watch out for sunlight through windows affecting your tank. You might want to check out this thread including my post #7 from...

    Aquaclear 50 vs Fluval C3

You might check my post #15 I added today here: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f60/best-hob-filter-357588-2.html The C4 has a flow adjuster that lets you go anywhere between 150 and 250 gph. I run my C4 flow adjustment on the slowest setting on my 29 gallon.
