Might have been a "monkey's hand in the pickle jar" thing.... y'know where you can supposedly catch a monkey by luring them to grab something that's too big to get out of the hole. Maybe the fish could have let go, but refused, even though he was trapped.

About the carpet - the baking soda idea works great with that. Really. Lightly shake some baking soda out on your carpet, then vacuum it all up. It's amazing how much fresher the room feels, and gets me to wondering about what sort of environment my carpet is allowing

My filter gets the same. I've never had any problems scrubbing it off while cleaning the filter.

I used to have a pair of crabs about that size... It's been a few years, so I don't remember what type of crabs they were. My fish didn't have any problems with the crabs (although it did seem like the crabs were bullies of a sort). My main problem with my crabs was they were escape artists...

True. Supply and demand. Since they sell out everytime they bring a catch, they're gonna go for the "fastest" way of catching the little guys as possible.

I love info, so here goes: I didn't know what I put into the tank would matter. Could you give me some examples on what I would have to consider depending on what I put in the tank?

I've owned FW tanks for a long time... I'm trying to decide if I have the money/time to set up a SW tank. It would save a lot of money for me if I could use some of my FW equipment for the SW tank... but I don't know if there will be conflicts, and have had a hard time finding information...

From what I've read, the Gold Rams can be shy and territorial... I had a neighbor who had some problems adding them to their tank.

I remember when I once bought my little brother a tank, gravel, & decorations for abou $50 for his birthday.... I didn't realize that it would cost him even more than that just to get the tank up and running... that was one gift that turned out to be a mistake!
