    Bad fish day :(

Anyway I do change water once a week. I think I was just getting into a buildup problem in my bioballs. I put it on my calendar this time to backwash them and deep clean my sump in 6 months (I think it had been 9 or even nore). No other explanation for why nitrates have been going up faster than...

    Bad fish day :(

Ice water. It probably didn't even euthanize him fast enough but he was already suffering horribly so it's not like it could have been any worse for him. =|

    Bad fish day :(

Today has been a really bad fish day. First I was changing water in my kid's tank and I was trying the pump method where I pump the water out to a bucket with a powerhead. I had the pump intake unprotected but I put it up against a fake plant so there was some stuff blocking the intake. Well I...

    Thinking of switching to LED

They do not have moonlights. One is ample high light on a 18" wide tank so I think that 2 should be perfectly sufficient.

    Project fun - equip a 20L or 29

She'll use a python, convenience is paramount. So I'm probably going to recommend the 29. It's going on a dresser but she and I sat together on the right half of the dresser and wiggled around and the sucker didn't budge. She and I together are only 220lb but it was something :P Thanks so much...

Which though - the FugeRay Planted+, or the Planted+ 24/7 (why do all of them have almost the same name grrr)

Working on lighting now. Is it just me or does Finnex have too many option now? It's a bit overwhelming. Anyway I made a chart with the LEDs included on the various Finnex fixtures and Current in order to order them by likely PAR (I'm lazy and didn't really look up PAR data on these). Remember...

    Project fun - equip a 20L or 29

OK I have never used a HOB on any larger than a 10. You guys think that a single Fluval C3 or AC 50 is going to have enough circulation in a 20L or 29G?

    Project fun - equip a 20L or 29

I think mine is stupid. I take it all apart and clean it with a q-tip. It's not slimy or anything. I gave up using it. BUT I recognize mine seems to be an outlier, hence still considering it or its cousin the C3 for my friend :) Brandon I'm curious you how don't have to prime. All the water...

    Project fun - equip a 20L or 29

I have an Aquaclear and if I so much as nudge the intake tube, the pump won't turn on at all, and I have to disassemble the entire thing, clean out the pump and put it back together (sometimes twice). and it has a prefilter sponge so the impeller doesn't get that dirty. I think mine is just...

    Project fun - equip a 20L or 29

Yeah now that the Fluval and AC filters are made by the same company I would consider them pretty much interchangeable. They have the same motor and the same inherent drawback (priming required). I've read that the C series has improved design over aquaclear which is why I would go with the...

    Project fun - equip a 20L or 29

My bestie, after admiring my tanks for a long while, is ready to set up a tank in her kid's room. She trusts me on this topic obviously and has tasked me with picking out her equipment. I can do it myself of course but I know there are others out there who find this fun so I may as well also...

Emersed plant diary - Glosso, Staurogyne Repens and Pogostomen Helferi

    Fishless cycle(Ammonia not dropping)

So it has been 5 days? Continue as you are. It can take up to 2-3 weeks to see the ammonia drop. It will not happen this quickly.

    Thinking of switching to LED

I have a BML on my 24" deep tank and it lights it just fine. Smooth even distribution. No light problems at the bottom. Everyone else has said this just another vote to add.

    The best water changer

Appealing, but it doesn't work like that here :P Our basements are crawl spaces, and we have a sump pump down there to get rid of the water, it's that bad. There is an underground spring under our backyard :nono: It's a mess. Anyway I could send it to a sink somewhere if I was inclined...

    The best water changer

I do use tank water for those, I fill a bucket worth and keep it outside. I can't drain to the outside as we have severe drainage problems and it becomes a swamp and we get water under the house.

    The best water changer

I will have to consider this change. I generally dislike wastefulness/garbage so the python isn't my favorite but I have considered it a necessary evil because I'm not going to bucket 60 gallons of water.

Lol!!! That was pretty late last night. I am not sure when i am going to have time, you can't even imagine what a monumental task it will be, my folder has like 300 links. I will try but it's gonna take a while :D Sent from my SGH-M919 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    The best water changer

I don't really understand how the pump system works. I'm imagining it relies on keeping a bin of water somewhere, but I have nowhere to do it, certainly nowhere to hold 60 gallons =/ Sent from my SGH-M919 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Uh Oh. Ammonia Help?

Listen to Caliban. If his post made your brain hurt, here's the TL&DR: Don't dose so often. The bacteria will NOT starve. Just do a half dose every few days, like Tom says. Never dose more often than once every 24hrs, it's just not necessary. At this point I would do a 99% water change, add new...
