Ok do you think if I add more tigers to the tank they might leave the pictus alone or just add more stress to the pictus with more bullies?

My pictus has ich. I've read that you can use aquarium salt and I've read that you can't use aquarium salt for treatment. I've already increased the temp a bit and would like to know if they would tolerate the salt? Also, how much salt for a 20 gallon would be tolerable, if at all? I really do...

No ammonia detected in the tap water. Stock should be right at about max. 6 tiger barbs and 1 small (not common) pleco. Could be over feeding I guess, that's why I've been feeding every other day for the last week. I'll keep working at it.

I would like to say my tank is fully cycled now after 5 weeks but can't seem to get ammonia to zero. Ammonia .25, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 0 and pH 7.4. Is there a reason it's staying above zero after everything else has spiked and fallen? I've always thought ammonia would bottom out before...

Wouldn't my pleco be sensitive to the aquarium salt?

Yes I've tested them straight from the tap and right before I added fish at first just to be sure. All were 0.

Oh and thank you for the comment! I do believe I'm stuck in a nitrite spike stage that's never ending... Blah!

Unfortunately they are still high. Same as yesterday and after another pwc :( I just keep using Prime to detoxify and I guess it's doing it's job.

Looking MUCH better today! No fighting either :)

I will continue doing the water changes. Just want them to be healthy.

I think that's all for today I guess. Just hoping they leave each other alone again and this cycle finishes :)

Will do, definitely! Could you tell me approximately how long it will take for the nitrites to lower? It's been about a week since the ammonia dropped. Still waiting on the nitrite spike to end though.

I have a 4 week old 20 gal aquarium. It has not fully cycled yet (Ammonia .25; Nitrite 5ppm; Nitrate 80+ppm; pH 7.4). I use an API Master liquid test kit. Not strips. It has 6 tiger barbs and 1 "small" pleco, not a common, which were placed a few days after tank setup. Plenty of hiding...
