Did I stall or kill my cycle?

mket use the fishless cycle guide as your starting point. Use your testing kit (API Freshwater Master Test Kit) to dictate what happens next during the cycle. Dose ammonia. Test in a few days, if ammonia has dropped dose to the PPM you started with. Test for nitrites. Now you have ammonia and...

Did I stall or kill my cycle?

I've only cycled a handful of tanks. Always used Dr Tims Ammonia. I used the fishless cycle guide when I started. My tanks typically cycled within 2 weeks. Once the tank started to show high nitrites I've always done large water changes and dosed ammonia again. Always shortly after the tank...

Did I stall or kill my cycle?

They will come down after you do some water changes and are able to read the nitrites on the test like Caliban07 said. The system is being trained to remove nitrates, but it can only remove what is can process. I'd bet that after a water change the nitrites start to go away. At which point you...

    Resealing tank

I would just remove as much as you can in the upper corners. You should be able to push a razor in there and with some needle nose pliers pull the chunks out. Be sure to go over the glass again once all of the silicone is off just to make sure it is all off. Using acetone or rubbing alcohol to...

Cycle is going no where.. What to do?

You never mentioned anything about filter(s) running for the duration? I've always used a power head also. I never did a water change until my nitrites were off the charts.

    To sump or not?

What are your opinions on the eshopps pf-800 overflow (maximum flow rate of 800gph) using the RIO 17HF return pump ( 840 gph at 4 foot). I don't want to create a wave pool but I want to get the max turn over rate. I also don't want to put a ball valve on the return line. And if I've been reading...

    To sump or not?

I just setup a 75 gallon mbuna tank. I have a fluval 306 canister currently on the tank and a DIY filter in the tank to help out. I do have a 30 gallon sump made already for another tank I have that is not setup. I've been reading about the eshopps pf-800 and the eshopps pf-1000 HOB overflows...

Bacteria (How Long Will it Live)

I have fishless cycled my 55 gallon tank. It converted 4ppm of ammonia into nitrates a week or so ago. Since then I have added ammonia to the tank daily to keep the bacteria alive doing water changes every 3-4 days. I have planned to purchase the bulk of my fish this past weekend. However, they...

90 gallon from salt to fresh

I recently bought a 90 gallon tank that was used for salt water. I'll be running freshwater. Mine wasn't cleaned at all. I used white distilled vinegar and water to clean it up. Like others said, if it isn't bad then use just water.

In your first post you mentioned - If the back of the tank is already painted black then no worries! Just wanted to mention the plastidip since it is easily removable.

    Is aqua bid safe?

I've used that site once for some plants. Ended up being a nightmare. Not because of the site but because of the seller. Luckily I was protected by paypal, and if you are used to buying off the internet you know that not every transaction will be great. If I ever come across anything on that...

How do do WC on big tank? 75g or bigger?

I bought the python T valve off ebay and hose from a local hardware store. The python valve doesn't connect to any of our sinks so I bought an adapter to hook up to our shower head. I ran 5 foot of hose down, connected the T valve then ran another 30 foot of hose to remove and add water. It was...

    wedding sand as substrate?

Different color sand you pour into a box during your wedding. You take it home and put it on a shelf. Got married in Panama City last October. I have some "wedding" sand in a box on a shelf. Like others suggested. Colorful rocks aren't that hard to clean if you have a siphon. Might be a pain...

New 75g stock/build thread. Need advice please!!

Go visit your local hardware store or automotive store and buy a can of plastidip and paint the back of the tank with it. It comes in a can like spray paint. However if you want to remove it you just peel it off. Lay the tank down on its front side. Paint the back with a few coats and let it sit...

Resealing 90 Gallon W/ Corner Overflow Box

Good afternoon! I have stripped the 90 gallon tank and cleaned it well. I am going to be going over everything with with some more blades and acetone. This tank came with a corner overflow, which I will be using. My question is when I start to apply the silicone do I need to install the...

90 Gallon Tank W 30 Gallon Sump (Suggestions)

I am taking into account how I may plumb the return line back into the tank and the distance this might create. Also, if whichever pump I decide on is to powerful I'll add a ball joint and possibly a T into the return line. This would allow me to control the flow and direct the flow into the...

90 Gallon Tank W 30 Gallon Sump (Suggestions)

The wife and I picked up a 90 gallon tank with a built in overflow and return lines this weekend. It also came with a 30 gallon sump. The tank was used for saltwater so I am in the process of cleaning it. This tank will be heavily stocked with mbuna cichlids. The plan is to use either a RIO...

    Flourite Substrate

I am going to buy a "LOT" off aquabid for both of my 20's various plants to try out. Make sure my lighting is okay. I will NOT be introducing co2 to either tank. What is left over from the "LOT" will be placed in pots in my 55 gallon tank.

    Flourite Substrate

Ordered 2 bags of black flourite for my 20 long. I have flora max in my 20 tall. Both are cycling with dr tims ammonia. Comparison... None yet. Have to say the flourite wasn't nearly as bad as I have read as far as washing it goes. Probably took me 35-40 minutes for both bags. DIdn't cloud my...
