    Lab food

Apparently labs are slightly more on the protein side of diets than most Mbuna so might just be a bit reluctant to indulge in so much 'greenery'. Mine get new era green and eat it up fine but go nuts once a week when I drop a block of cichlid mix with the brine shrimp in. I wouldn't say it's a...

    Twitching malawi sprengae.

I can believe the submission argument but the was my only male sprengae, was very dominant across the whole tank and he died eventually.

    Twitching malawi sprengae.

I feed them new era rift lake green twice a day and then for once a week some deshelled green peas and also once a week some frozen malawi mix blocks.

    Twitching malawi sprengae.

Okay, thanks man. I generally do a 30% water change weekly but yeah, will grab a nitrate kit and take it from there.

    Twitching malawi sprengae.

Okay, cool, I'll grab a nitrate test ASAP. My PH as of an hour ago was at 7.9, but usually hangs around 7.8. It comes out the tap at 7.8. Have been adding buffer to raise it. How important is it to be at the 8 mark? I think you might be on to something with the nitrates though, how do I get rid...

    Twitching malawi sprengae.

Hi caliban, thanks for your reply. I have tested all the water, ammonia is at 0 and nitrite is pretty close. I don't have a nitrate test but the tank has been running for 6 months, haven't had any issues till now.

    Twitching malawi sprengae.

Hi, I had a weird situation and wanted to know if someone could help me please. I have a 300litre Mbuna tank with 16 fish in it, males and females. One of my ice blue greshekei got a case of bloat, I removed it to the hospital tank but it was too late and it died. That evening I saw that 2 of...

Hmm, hard tell, looks like it's likely to me but not big enough to tell for sure.

    Cichlid lake salts and trace

Look like you got a male and female kenyi too. All look malawi to me. I use the seachem malawi lake salts, they work great, not sure on how they'll work with the crayfish but if trace is working fine with them I guess malawi lake salts'll be fine too.

    My modern 55 gallon tank

Wow, great job. Background came out nicely. Makes a perfect discus or angel setup in my opinion. Woodwork looks good too. Just have one question? How you keeping control of the condensation build up? You got sliding glass covers or ventilation holes? Why I'm asking is cos I have a similar tank...

    chinese algae eater

I have 2 Chinese algae eaters in my malawi tank, both about 3 inches. They do great, way better than a pleco, hold their ground way better than a pleco and look way better than a pleco in my opinion. Never had an issue with them bothering my malawis yet either, but they are aggressive so might...

Filter for 250 litre malawi tank

Hi, Just wanted to get some opinions on a canister filter size for a Malawi tank of 250litres (66g). I have 18 dwarf Mbuna in the tank and do a weekly 30% water change and gravel vac. It's a fairly new tank, 3 months old, but I haven't seen any noticeable ammonia build up at all. My current...

Any suggestions for my Malawi tank?

Yeah that's a Chinese algae eater. They work well for me. I agree with troyd, more caves will do the tank good. Also soon as you can tell I'd stick with one male demasoni to 5 or 6 females. And in that size I wouldn't go for anymore than 1 male.

Any suggestions for my Malawi tank?

I have 2 Chinese algae eaters in my 75g tank, they've done a great job. They also look way better than plecos in my opinion and can defend themselves well agains the malawis.

Any suggestions for my Malawi tank?

Tank looks good to me. You might have some issues with the demasoni. They notoriously difficult to keep. Maybe a few more rocks would help that situation.

    Help ID

Thanks guys. Got him at my lfs about 1.5 years ago so I'd put him at about 2 years, suppose it's possible he's a hybrid. Last time I got fish from a shop and I guess this is part of the reason why I won't ever again. He has had egg spots before, but they've faded at the moment. He's never been...

    Auratus sex

It's where you hold the fish upside down and examine the 'vent' by the anus. The female's is large and the male's small. Google it, there's lots of YouTube videos on it and it's easier than you'd expect.
