I just scared the poo out of myself!!!

Bristle worms aren't dangerous, I've never read about any serious reactions to them and rate very low on the list of things that could hurt you in your tank. Foxfaces are the worst in my experience, worse then lions. A cut from a foxface Lo made me sick for 2 days.

    Green Water

Black out your tank for a few days, keep the lights off and throw a sheet over it. That'll fix it. then you just have to try to fix your underlying excess nutrient problem.

    20 Gallon Reef- updated 12/11/2007

sorry to hear that. Salt water is unfortunately always expensive to do anything the right way, and you quickly find out there is only one right way for many of these things.

    Ok, lets try this again...

Friends don't let friends buy the skilter. If you run an airstone instead of the venturi its not so bad but its still not very effective. I would honestly go skimmerless and just do frequent water changes, thats only if you were not trying to do SPS. SPS are a whole different ball game and...

might very well be a bleached zoanthid.... Its really hard to tell.

    Whats On This Rock?

I use marine snow with a great deal of success, I have tried DT's but I didn't feel like it was worth the extra money. Then again I don't do much in the way of sps corals.

    Hermet crab Qu

I have a few scarlet hermits, even after over a year they still like to sit in one spot for long periods of time, I think they might be halfway nocturnal.

    New Nano Setup

yeah, I was thinking you were using stock lighting. I don't know about many softies that are particularly demanding or even rare for that matter.... maybe some unusual sarcophytons but MH lighting would probably be overkill for something like that. Lots of types of Ricordia would work really...

    New Nano Setup

I have various Euphylia corals in my 12 gallon, They can touch and not hurt each other and it makes a striking display with clown fish. Large numbers of colorful zoanthids always look nice and its easy to do in a small tank.

    panda goby?

Atlantic pygmy maybe..... but they are iffy with corals.

    20gal Long Sump Questions

That setup is a bad idea, It is almost impossible to match the flow rate of the two pumps together. It is best to gravity feed the sump with an overflow.

    Use what I have?

when you get to the level of a 240 gallon tank how much sump do you really need? Room for your skimmer and a place to grow macro is about it I would think. If you have that now, why not use the equipment you have? You are not going to expand your chemical stability much with 50-60 gallons and...

Frequently moving a small reef tank?

I have a twelve gallon reef that I have moved 4 times since july and its thriving, I don't see why you couldn't do the same. 60 Watts is enough for some corals and marginal for higher light ones. Moving all the time I would suggest hardy lowlight corals like shrooms and zoos anyway so you are...

What is this type of alage?

good or bad is easy to answer. Do you like it? Does it grow at a manageable rate? If you answered yes to both questions then it is good. otherwise might be bad, personally I think its cool and would love to take it off your hands if it makes you nervous, I love macro algae in my tanks. I...

    taking on the challenge-not alone

sounds fascinating, I would go for it. You are going to get typically conservative responses because most people on here are hobby aquarists. I'm not bad mouthing that, thats what I am and I am very conservative in what I buy and how I stock my tanks. However, you are trying to do scientific...

    Starting 2.5g pico

can she go any bigger? if not it sounds like it will work alright for shrooms or zoos I would want more light for anything else but who knows you've only got like an inch or two of water between the light and the coral so it might work alright. Are you doing an auto top off? How are you...

    Water Changes

I have a 12 gallon that I change 2 1/2 gallons out of every 3 days or so, I have a calcium sapping frogspawn in there that needs it and on my 55 I change out 12 gallons every 2-3 weeks. My 55 almost never seems to need it but I do it anyway.

    Serpent star breeding behavior?

^thats what I was thinking, I did another small water change after he was done just in case. I'll keep a close watch on it but I have a lot of filter feeders in my tank so I'm sure it'll get cleaned out of the water pretty quick anyway.

    Serpent star breeding behavior?

My serpent star who I have had for 2 years now has moved to the top of my rock work, lifted its body up as high as it could and released a white substance through vents on the sides of its body. The lights are on, I just did a water change with slightly warmer water then the tank's water. I...

    Frogfish died :x

Overfeeding perhaps? My understanding is these opportunistic predators will continue to eat long past where it is healthy because in the wild it is difficult to get a regular food supply. I don't know what the nutritional requirements of such an animal is but I would bet they weren't entirely...
