5.5 gallon tank for my daughter

Also should state that my PH is quite high. 8.8 out of the tap and about 8.3 when I mix distilled and tap.

5.5 gallon tank for my daughter

Just wondering what suggestions you guys have for a 5.5 gallon tank? I thought about a Betta, 2 Guppies, or say 5 neon tetra's. Any thoughts? I don't want to overload this small tank. Thanks!

    8.4 ph

Water parameters have always been great as I check regularly with the API liquid tests. It's just my PH that is concerning. The tank was fully cycled and have never had a big ammonia problem after I added fish after the 6 weeks of fishless cycling.

    8.4 ph

Hello all, I have a 20 gallon tank that has been set up for about a year. In that time period, I've had about 20 fish total (not at one time) but they never seem to last more than 3 or 4 months. Most of them have been platys. My PH out of the tap is 8.6 so I've been mixing 50% distilled...

    Dying Oto Catfish

It's always hard to say with Otos. I've had 4 and 2 died as well. The PH is the only thing I can think of. They generally like PH between 7-7.8. I have a high PH as well so I use about 2/3 distilled with each WC. Are they small or big? Bigger ones tend to live a little bit longer and are...

    Upside down fish HELP ASAP

Well sometimes that happens with Swim bladder which is basically constipation. However, that usually is more common for gold fish. You could try and feed a skinned crushed pea to see if that helps the digestion system. The other possibility is that your fishes organs are failing. I've had...

possible swim bladder issues! please help!

I've never used copper safe but I've read it's not great for Cory Cats. I would try and use something else. Depending if it's a bacterial thing or internal parasite, I would use Erthromycin(bacterial) or General Cure(internal) which can be found at Petsmart. If you were going to order online...

    Vitachem or Vitamin supplements?

Does anyone use vitachem or vitamin supplements? I've issues with disease in my 20G and am always trying to improve the health. Just wondering if anyone has had any success with this. I ordered some off Dr. Foster and Smith. Let me know! Thanks.

possible swim bladder issues! please help!

It could also be some sort of disease. Sometimes with internal parasites, the final stage before death is organ failure which includes the swim bladder. Hard to know but since so many of them are having issues, I would say it's not swim bladder unless you are overfeeding. You can also soak foods...

    HEXAMITIASIS? Internal parasite?

So I've had a few fish get stringy white poo (hairlike thin). They also seem lethargic and hang out by the heater or in the corner. I treated with API General Cure and while two have gotten better, 3 of them look worse than before. Should I treat again with the General Cure? Will raising...

    Should I jump into Cichlids?

Maybe there's no wide. It looks like a 55 is the same length as a 75 but the 75 is 5" wider. The only problem with a 75 is that my sink is far away from where I want to put my tank. Water changes will be a little tricky and the less I have to move, the better

    Should I jump into Cichlids?

Thank you for all your replies! I'm going to be doing an all male tank. I don't really want to deal with babies or getting rid of fish. I don't mind paying a little more to get what I want. What about tank size. I preferably would like to get a 55 gallon but could get a 75. If I get a wide 55...

    Should I jump into Cichlids?

Dixiegirl - Was definitely thinking of an Acei or Lab. Do you have any? I've heard that as long as you get the Mbuna that is smaller than the Habs/peacocks it can work. How many did you Cichlids did you start your tank with? Parker - I was planning on having an all Malawi tank. My...

    Should I jump into Cichlids?

Thank you for your replies! I'm definitely going to be doing an all male tank as I don't really want to deal with the whole breeding aspect. Ideally, I would like to get a 75 gallon tank with mostly Habs and peacocks but would like to get 2 or so docile Mbuna. In a 75 gallon tank, I...

    Should I jump into Cichlids?

Hello all. I've had a 20 Gallon aquarium for about 4 months now and I've been really enjoying the hobby! I've always liked fish but now I'm sort of obsessed. I want to get a bigger tank and do larger fish then my livebearer aquarium. I'm fascinated by the idea of having a Malawi Cichlid...

Substrate or rock causing high ph?

Thank you all for the replies. I appreciate the responses. I think my ph is rising after I fill it. I read that the co2 releases after awhile and raises the ph. Will test it out

Substrate or rock causing high ph?

So I've had trouble getting my ph down. Currently, it's about 8.2 and and that's down from originally being 8.4 in my 20 gallon. I thought it was my tap water so I started using 2/3 distilled water. Now that I have a ph testing kit, I see my tap water is only 7.5 ph. Could it be from the...

Sick balloon Molly and hospital tank question

Thank you for your reply delapool! I appreciate the time you take to respond to so many questions on this forum. My balloon Molly was swimming energetically again yesterday morning and right before I turn off the light for the night, she was back to the same spot. Maybe she's just rests there...

    Swim bladder disease?

Have you tried feeding the guppy a cooked, deshelled pea? That helps with swim bladder. Do you have a hospital tank? You can get one at petsmart for like $20.

    Swim bladder disease?

Any updates? I've had many fish do the same thing and at first I thought it was swim bladder but usually it was their organs were failing (swim bladder too) and that creates the erratic swimming.

    Stringy white/clear poop

If you have a QT or hospital tank, I would put him in it. White poop could be as sign of some sort of bacterial infection or parasite. Hard to know but better safe than sorry.

Sick balloon Molly and hospital tank question

I noticed my balloon Molly is just sitting in the bottom of the tank and breathing heavy. My levels in my 20 gallon are fine and I just added the balloon yesterday. I fed her earlier today and she was swimming energetically. Could this be swim bladder? She does have a small black poo hanging...

All my fish died. Trying to figure out why

Water quality is most likely the reason they died. How many water changes per week were you doing?

All my fish died. Trying to figure out why

That's way too many fish. A 5 gallon is big enough for the Betta alone. Mollies need a 20 gallon tank
