New clown loaches MIGHT have Ich.

I think 88F will be fine for the treatment period. The swordtails and plecos might be the most uncomfortable, but it won't kill them. I believe ich dies off above 87F. You'll need to keep it up long enough to cover all the ich lifecycles.

What the.... little worms in my aquarium?! (from a Kiwi?)

I have to agree. I had a few once. I though they were adorable. They do bother fish a bit (though not purposely); I watched a planaria worm swept into the current of my filter and into the face of my goldfish. The goldfish then proceded to scrape against decor to get the little bugger off its face.

    Tank Clouded Up 3rd Day?

The inch per gallon rule is a little outdated. There is now specific formula that covers all species together. Its a little odd to think a 10" fish would do fine in a 10 gallon tank. It would touch both ends without much swimming. However, five 2" tetras wouldn't be all you could put in that...

    HARD water + alkaline

Sounds great. My water is off the charts worse than yours is and I've successfully kept goldfish, tetras, livebearers, African cichlids, loaches, otos. As long as it's stable over time. Even discus can live in such conditions if they are raised in them. An lfs near me has the same water...

Male and Female bettas are living together!

Maybe the conditions just aren't right for breeding. As you said, the last batch of eggs produced no fry. And lets face it, ornamental bettas haven't been bred for fighting in how many hundreds of generations? They aren't always as aggressive as they are made out to be. Even fighting plakats...

    QT tank between inhabitants

I don't maintain a specific QT/hospital tank. I use a bucket. Any antibiotics you use would kill off the cycle. I find a bucket much easier, and its less likely I'm going to get the urge to stock a sad looking empty bucket as I would a tank.

    Hemichromis paynei

I just purchased a male and two female jewels today to go in my 30 gallon that used to house my green sunfish. I'm wondering about what size they start breeding. They are currently about 1.5" each. The male is quite the territorial little thing, I like his spark.

    Snail shells

I have several dozen trumpet and ramshorn snails in my 30 gallon tank. When I started this tank they were a mixture of beautiful golden browns. Now they are white, like calcium white. I have very hard water, more so than what my test kit could measure. I also have driftwood in the tank. No algae...

How to get rid of snails!?!

Sunfish, especially pumpkinseeds, will wipe out an mts population overnight. Unfortunately. I love my mts and can't seem to get their population to explode. I overfeed and overfeed. But you can't go around adding fish to an established tank can you. I suggest the old trap and remove method as well.

Yes ANOTHER 10 gal setup..... I swear this one is different!

"mmm fry for dinner", is what a betta, tetras, a danio, any cichlid species, ect. would think. A fry tank should be a fry-only tank if you want them to grow out. No need to add more and more species to the jumble. That's a newbie symptom, like owning a hex tank.

    All change...

Looks like a 10 gallon? Easier to let everything sit in bleach and then rinse like crazy. No chance of ruining too much stuff. Must re-cycle either way.

    Is this ICK?

Black skirts and other tetras are prone to velvet as well, but the spots that I can see are a little big for that. I'd say its ich again. Harsh medications can work, but a little salt, a little heat, and a good cycle will do much better in keeping the fish healthy enough to ward off ich on their...

    A centerpiece fish?

My ph is 8.6. Don't faint. I test the water that the stores send home with the fish in and its all high ph. I assume they are quite used to it and bred in the same ph as they come from apet inc. Even the loaches came from hard water. The driftwood now is hardwood. I had grapevine for its looks...

    A centerpiece fish?

I finally redid my 30 gallon driftwood tank. I'd been letting it age not-so-gracefully as I haven't had time for it. I now have stocked... 3 blackskirt tetras 4 buenos aires tetras 2 female bettas 1 kuhli loach 1 zebra danio 2 checkered barbs I don't plan to get more barbs or danios as they...

    He's king of the aquarium

I had three pumpkinseeds in with my green sunfish for 2 months. All were the same size, 4". Plenty of hiding spaces. The green was obviously getting more of the food as he's now 5"+. Two pumpkinseeds died though. I think he just looks at them and they die! When I gave him feeder guppies once...

Up to my ears in snails!

rkilling1 is right, MTS really don't multiply that quickly with low food. I don't know why they get such a bad reputation. I love snails and I'd like to see my MTS more often. I have about 50 around 1 cm and maybe 100 visible tinies in a 30g. I made the mistake of letting my sunfish have a day's...

Am I right or Petco -- Salt discussion

Pet store workers are in retail, as in, little educational background needed. I always have to eye up the buenos aires tetras in stores, since they are my favs, and they are never as colorful or healthy as my own. Walmart in my area probably has the healthiest fish.
