How To Fix My Tank Parameters?

You're tanks are not finished cycling. Do daily water changes to keep the ammonia ans nitrite as low as possible for your livestock. Sent from my VS990 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Losing the BBA battle

Hydrogen peroxide dosing. No more than 1mL per gallon to start out. Just take a small syringe (ease and accuracy knowing how much you are dosing) and spray it onto the BBA. This is the method I'm using to try and keep it gone. Disclaimer: do NOT use this method of you have Invertabrates in the...

    Green sans

Cut back to 8, put a break in the middle (easy to do with an outlet timer) and vacuum out as much as possible. If it persists, blue green (if you identify that as what it is) can be killed with bacterial medication.

    Quarantine or not to quarantine?

Sorry I didn't answer your third question. If you have a quarantine setup you can move it and treat alone or treat the main tank. Typically I soak frozen food like bloodworms for 30 minutes in PraziPro if I suspect parasites. Its harmless if ingested by fish that don't actually have a parasite...

    Quarantine or not to quarantine?

I skimmed the article but I'm really not sure how to feel about the "pathogens are always present" comment. That's a highly controversial statement. Yes some things are in the water (like how a fish gets fungus from an injury) but some more serious diseases like columnaris I have my doubts. The...

    White spots on driftwood?

I meant if you have zebra nerite snails they have a habit of spraying eggs around the tank lol. However they cannot hatch in freshwater. Certainly not harmful.

    White spots on driftwood?

The snails most likely. Zebra nerite?

    Fin-rot, Bettas, and chain stores

My brother and I have experienced similar except within a year they generally die. Planted 10g tanks alone. Weekly water change. I don't get it, I think it's just bad genes. I don't keep bettas any more for this reason and I refuse to make like 50$ for one from a breeder.

    2-25% weekly PWC. Too much?

Often times gravel will collect waste over time that you miss. Be sure to vacuum really good. That should be fine though. Ive done as much as 75% twice a week.

    Angelfish comparability

Both should be fine. Every fish is different but under normal circumstances they should work fine together.

    What is this?!!!!

Never seen one bigger than a small pea. They reproduce very quickly. Population control is through how much you feed. Don't overfeed and their population will stay lower.

    What is this?!!!!

Pond snail. Could have came from any fish bag you added to the tank. Harmless just annoying.

Are my 55 gal community stocking plans ok?

I have ember tetras they are very small and even adults might be Angel food. I haven't kept firemouth but read they can be quite aggressive at times. Aside from that your list looks alright.

Best products for keeping nitrates under control?

Marimo balls are actually a ball of natural algae and not a plant. RO/DI. Stands for Reverse Osmosis/ Distilled water. an RODI unit can be attached to your water line and acts as basically a super filter that polished your water to pure cleanliness. It is a bit expensive depending on the unit...

Best products for keeping nitrates under control?

For freshwater the best thing IMO is get a bunch more plants and you can "half-cut" your water change with RODI water to reduce the nitrates going into the tank. I don't favor extra chemicals so that is my recommendation.

    African newbie

Thanks. I think another thing I'm wondering is "how much is too much" I know you overstock but is it just personal judgement to say "okay this tank can't hold anymore.." I did watch one of KGtropicals videos and I follow his group on Facebook. I took a particular interest in his Venestus. I...

    African newbie

Thanks man. Any other tips? I know you have quite a bit of experience with Africans. What do you think is nonsense from him? I know he favors mixed tanks. I decided just peacocks and haps to keep it simple.

    African newbie

Thank you for the reply SharLar. An all male tank sounds more colorful and more interesting to me. I don't have a lot of money upfront. Someone told me when you stock Africans it's best to do the majority at one time to combat aggression. Thoughts?

    African newbie

Hello friends, some of you know me and some of you don't. I'm going to have some free tank space soon and what I'm really itching to try is African cichlids. I have kept quite a variety of cichlids from Jack Dempsey to small apiatogramma, however I have never owned Africans. This is completely...
