If you transfer over all of the old media, I would imagine your fish will be fine because you haven't lost any bacteria. Another suggestion: it couldn't hurt to run a cycle of bacteria once the canister is set up. I use Seachem Stability but there are others out there

Yeah. I use 2 FX6 canisters for my 150g and 2 AC50 on my 20g L. The most noticeable difference between the two is it definitely takes more time to maintain a canister. It's not really harder once you become familiar with it, there's just more parts to remove/clean.

Not many. In my experience (mostly reading) , GBR's and Apisto's would work. I've also heard shelldwellers, but know nothing about Africans. If you're interested in cichlids, why not try to save money and wait to buy a bigger tank? If you get a 55g, options definitely open up

I've used the Tubifex worms before and had mixed results. My gouramis eat them, occasionally my Albino Tiger Oscar eats them and if I hand-feed them to him my BGK will eat them too. Haven't had a lot of luck with baby brine shrimp. My Oscars frequently chew on them and then spit them out.

I would definitely agree with that. Unless it's a custom acrylic or very large (i.e. 200g+), it's not going to go for much.
