I know this is probably going to sound stupid but does it make any sense to add more sealant to a new tank as a added precaution. I ask because my 45 gal. sprung a leak and i just bought a new 56 gal tank. Would this make any sense to do. I'm thinking probably not but would like some feed back.

Thanks

Silicone does not stick to silicone.
I don't think you would do more then make a mess?
First thing to check when buying a tank is the caulk job.
Next is to see if the glass is wracked , chipped or scratched.
Many over haul used tanks , but I would not a new.

I'm sure that all new aquariums are water tested before they leave the manufacturer. Also, if you read the instructions on a tube of silicone it will tell you a maximum bead thickness, due to expansion and contraction and strength of the material. More is not necesarily better. Make sure your aquarium is well supported and touching the stand all along its bottom edges and you should be good to go. good luck and enjoy your tank
