My tank is getting invaded by a brownish algae that covers the plants gravel and driftwood (diatoms?) , so I was wondering if there are any solutions. I have a BNP working on the plants and driftwood but I'm concerned about the gravel. Any ideas?

Chances are its diatoms and should eventually go away once conditions stabilize.

Diatoms absorb silicates from the water and will go away on their own in time. If your tanks not planted you can add phosphate remover to your filter as phosphate removers also remove silicates from the water. Eventually the BNP will get to the gravel.
