As some of you may have read in my other thread, I'm starting a 10g that was given to me by a friend. It's being seeded with media, but I'm unable to get fish for a while so I'll be dosing ammonia to keep my bb alive. The only ammonia I have has this as the ingredients:

Ammonium Hydroxide
Surfactant
(No phosphorus)
Is my ammonia aquarium-safe?
:thanks:

I've read plenty of accounts of people using ammonia with surfactants with no problems. However the 'proper' answer is that, no, that's the wrong ammonia. The correct ammonia will either list ammonia as it's only ingredient or not list any ingredients at all.

If you go to True Value or Ace Hardware, you should be able to pick it up for a dollar or two.

You do not have to use ammonia to keep the cycle going. If you already have fish food you can drop some in there to rot, which will continually release ammonia.
