Is a standard size 55 gallon tank (21 inches tall) good enough for angel fish or should I be looking for something taller?
What is the shortest that should even be considered for angels?

Bare minimum is a 20H for angelfish IMO. I know that is what many breeders use. A 29g would also work for a pair.

I agree that a standard 55g is fine. People have a lot of different opinions about angelfish housing and minimum tank sizes ect. Personally, I wouldn't put an angel in anything under a 29g which is just over 18 inches high I believe. A 20g tall is the commonly accepted tank minimum for an angel and I believe thats some over 17 inches tall. Plenty of people have successfully kept breeding pairs of angels in 20g tall tanks, so it all depends on what you personally are comfortable with. :)

Thanks for the input. I'm keeping an eye on the List for a new tank that I'm going to donate to my church (I will be maintaining it). I figured Angelfish would just be a given. ;)
