Aqua Chem Pool Sand

I'm considering switching the substrate in my 55 gal from standard aquarium gravel to sand. I've heard you can use pool filter sand, and this is the only type I can find near me (Aqua Chem Filter Sand PLUS). Does anyone know if it would be ok to use in my tank?

Read the label carefully, the "Plus" would scare me a bit. We use PFS in most of our tanks and love it. Check out Leslie's Swimming Pool Supplies, the world leader in residential and commercial pool supplies. to see if they have a location close to you. We've always gotten our sand from pool supply stores. ~$8 / 50lbs.

I agree with HN1... 'plus' isnt always good! I've bought pfs at leslies as well, though it's $9 a bag here. I found some at Meijer for $1.99 a bag, but I've not seen it there lately (it was the same bag as leslies, just an off brand)

No don't use that sand it has some kind of conditioner in it (exactly what escapes me) if Lowes is the only place you can find it they also carry Quikrete PFS its in a white bag with blue,black,and yellow writing. Some times at our store it gets stocked in the wrong place.

+1 on the Quickrete. our Aubuchon's has it for $6.99 for a 50lb bag. i've seen it other places online, as well. just google it
