I'm starting a new 65g and am trying to get a nice "bushy" plant growth. I've seen many aquarium shots where the plants cover almost the whole aquarium; however, in my 45g the plants just seem to grow straight up and never get that "bushy" look. If I plant them close together to try and create it, then some just don't get enough light and die off or get covered in algae.

My 45g has 1 96w bulb and the 65 has 2 96w bulbs - both PC (Coralife Freshwater Aqualight- 36").

I'd love to go with Co2, but it's really just too much for me right now. I've seen some suggestions for low light but would like some suggestions for plant placements (Besides stuffing them in the soil around the tank). I've heard that some folks tie ferns to objects which I'll give a whirl this time... anything else?
