Bettas dying.

I have a fluval chi I have had two bettas die in the last 6 months. My water parameters are as they should be and the water is changed 50% every week. My fish was fine one day and the next he lost all his colour and just sat at the top until finding his last breath (broke my heart) any help would be fantastic

He was really chirpy since we had him then he just turned overnight very strange.

I've heard those tanks are not so good with bettas, they pull air from the surface.
