Hi.
I recently noticed that my the spine on my zebra danios is curved and it seems to be getting worse over the past two weeks. Is this due to water conditions or Vitamin deficiency? Is there anything I can do to help them?

Thanks.

It is the physical manifestation of TB (Tuberculosis) in a fish. There is not really anything that you can do at this point for the fish. I would recommend separating the infected fish from the rest of the tank since they can spread it. While uncommon, it is important to recognize that TB can be transmitted to humans from an infected tank. Just try and not put your hands into the tank with an open cut. It can cause a pretty nasty skin infection. Just to reiterate, it is very uncommon to contract TB from your tank but it is a possibility. From what I understand it is very difficult to treat the fish for the disease and rarely works so you just have to keep isolating the infected fish to try and stop the spread.
