The other day, I went to change the output from the spray bar, to the top valve to provide more surface agitation while my tank temp is up at 82.5F to combat a whitespot outbreak, and the dial on the top, simply snapped off.. leaving the filter with hardly any output at all..

I went and bought a new U4, presuming i could use both sponges and BIOMAX media from the broken filter... just wondering if thats a safe assumption? or will this hamper the cycle? the tank is fully cycled, but will this cause a mini-cycle or will it just run as normal?

Thanks

It all depends on if your filter was off for any long periods of time, otherwise if you move all the media to the new filter it probably shouldn't cause any sort of cycle in your tank. If it was off for a long period of time the bacteria could be dead. Long period = Several Hours.

oh, no i thought that, it was swift, probably 2 minutes while i changed it to the new filter... i'm also treating the tank with Interpet Anti White Spot.. and have the temp now at around 85F... after 6 days, most off the spots have disappeared, however one fish (previously unaffected) has now developed a spot behind its dorsal fin... i thought the life cycle is very short at 85F, surely the 2 dose treatment should of eradicated it by now?
