In a ten gallon tank with an algae eater already could I have just 1 cherry shrimp

PS I also have other fish in the tank
 
what other fish and what kind of algae eater? pleco, chinese algae eater?

A Chinese algae eater, a few platys, a few leopard danios and a few blood fin tetras

That CAE is gonna get as long as your tank and it sounds like the rest are most likely too many for your tank too (guessing a few means 5 to 6 each). Adding anything else is only going to cause major issues IMO. You should consider a bigger tank or rehoming a few fish.

That's good to hear, they get huge. Most schooling fish are best in groups of 5 or 6, but I've got 4 Cards and they do fine. Shrimp don't add much bioload, so I'd say once the CAE is gone, you should be OK.
