Cleaning a CPR overflow box

I have a cpr overflow box and I was wondering if I should drain it and clean it on a regular basis.

I clean mine. If I don't, I end up getting all kinds of nasty build up and algae growth inside it. I have a toothbrush and a pipe cleaner for cleaning my tank, they work wonders if you don't want to take it apart to clean. And all the garbage you scrape off goes right into the sump/skimmer.

How often do u clean yours

I have done one major clean since I started to have what appeared to be bubble algae growing in it. I just give it a simple quick scrub once and awhile. I have no real routine for it.
