Cloudy Water

My 20 gallon has been set up for about 3 months now and about a week ago it started getting cloudy. I think it is an algae bloom. I have an Amazon Sword and a couple Elodea stems in it. I don’t use any fertilizer except some root tabs I put in the gravel yesterday. I covered the tank with black plastic bags for a few days but that did nothing to clear the water. The tank is right near my windows and does get direct sun. I bought a back cover for it. How can I get rid of the cloudiness and hopefully prevent it in the future?

Get it out of direct sun light. Otherwise, you are fighting a losing battle with algae.

Then if you have a light, cut down on is use.
