I have a 40L bucket, yes it's heavy but I can lift it, iv been told it weighs about 6 stone when it's full.
When I filled the same bucket with pea gravel I could hardly lift it so does a bucket of gravel weigh more then a bucket of water?

Does a piece of gravel sink when you put it in water? If so, then it's heavier than water. Most gravel has a specific gravity of 2.400 to 2.600 (with water = 1.000), so most typical gravels weigh 2.4 to 2.6 times more than water at a given volume. That doesn't mean that a 5 gallon bucket of stone is going to weigh 2.5 times more than a 5 gallon bucket of water, since you have to account for the air voids between the stone, but, yes, it will be heavier..... I do concrete mix designs for a living, so I deal with this on a daily basis.

I didn't think about that if it sinks.
Thanks just wondering really I didn't want to use yahoo I'd probably get some 5 year old answering.
