Peat moss is not gradual. I put it in the filter of my 55 gal tank and within an hour it had dropped over 1.0 ppm. Granted, I put too much in. But it was not a gradual transition.

And did it level off gradually somewhere? What KH did you start with, and where did you end up? I have never done the peat moss thing, so I am curious how it worked out.

Well, the tank went from 7.6 to 6.4 in under an hour so I took out the peat (I know, not the best idea to take it all out at once). I never measured the KH after the peat was in, but prior to it I believe the level was at 14.

Ah, pH dropped a full point that quickly. Well, then I guess peat is pretty potent and needs to be gradually introduced.

hmm i may have to look into the peat moss. cuz my pH is around 8.4 and i would like for it to be lower. if it is stable at the lower pH i might try it since im still cycling.
