I'm interested in buying a new 29 and drilling it for an overflow. Is this feasible? My overflow box just has me worried that it might mess up one day, so I want something a bit more solid. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Both my tanks are drilled and I love them, great flow and no worries. When you buy a tank make sure its not tempered glass or buy one already drilled. Most local glass dealers will drill the tanks, shop around for a good price. Buy bulkheads on line for around $6.
Using a drilled tank IMO gives a nice clean look. You can go with 1 or 2 holes depending on what your trying to do. On my 55 fowlr I have 1 return goiing into the sump and the other to my 20 fuge next to the 55.
Why no use the tak you have now??

It's an older tank that needs to be replaced. There's getting to be alot of scratches in it...I fear its' starting to reduce the structural integrity of the tank.
