Hey, I'm starting a 20g long planted tank to breed some crystal red shrimp. I was wondering what the best type of filter for this set-up would be. I know if I use an HOB or something I'd have to place some sort of net like a nylon stocking over the intake so the baby shrimp don't get sucked up, but other than that I have no idea what filter I should get. Any suggestions would be great, thanks! Oh, also, ideally I'd like to stay on the cheap side, but don't mind spending some extra money if that's what it takes.

I'd say an Aquaclear 50 or two Aquaclear 30's if you are set on HOBs. Some polyfiber would be a good prefilter and is cheap.

I think they're all about the same, using an air pump to power it. I'd judge how much filtration your gonna need based on the number of shrimp, so maybe start with one and if need be add another. They're pretty inexpensive from what I've seen on petco's shelves.
