Hi all

New poster here

In the next couple of months I am going to be getting an Innovative Marine Nuvo 16 gallon.

The filtration for this aquarium is mechanical, activated carbon and phosphate filter media sponges.

Drs Foster and Smith say that every month you should change your filtration media "for the cleanest, healthiest aquarium environment possible"

My question is would this not create a 'mini cycle' in your aquarium every time you changed it out?

Thanks

I have not had any issues, as long as thats the only thing you do. When you go clean crazy and change the filter then you might get a mini cycle

So I would be better off just rinsing out the media every so often and keeping the beneficial bacteria, than putting new media in?

you don't actually need a to use a filter on a marine tank, a skimmer would be better anyway but you can get by without that and just a small cuc and regualr water changes
