Fishless cycle question.

I've been in the hobby for about 30 years and always cycled my filters either with fish or just using filter media from a cycled tank, the latter being the fastest way to go.
I've been reading here on people doing a fishless cycle. My question...
How does one start a cycle without a source of ammonia or a fishless cycle?
Just curious.

You have to add an ammonia source. Usually just pure, unscented ammonia. Can be done by letting a store bought shrimp (or most anything) decay in a media bag as well.
