I'm 2.5 weeks into a fishless cycle, following the directions in this wonderful article: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forum...guide-and-faq-to-fishless-cycling-148283.html.

I'm using an API liquid test kit.

Everything was going great: ammonia was dropping fast over night, nitrites were off the chart, and nitrates were climbing. Three days ago nitrates were at 40, yesterday they dropped to 10-20 and today they're at 0-.50!! What happened? (The actual level is an estimate because the color is in between the two levels).

Nitrites are still off the chart and ammonia drops from 4.0 to 0.5 overnight.

I'm aware of the issue with Nitrate bottle #2, I whack it hard a good few times on the counter and shake it for a full minute. I've also read and reread the directions to make sure I'm doing all of the tests right.

Please help!
