can you tell me how reliable and tough are these tanks
it is 56 gal 212 litre rectangle shaped
these apparently do not need to be placed on a base mat
as the tank base is slightly raised
just wondering about amount of stress these type of tanks can handle
once substrate/rocks etc and water are placed into them
they do not even have any braces across the tank

That aquarium will be plenty strong, mate! Over here in the states, the 'floating bottom' style of construction has been the predominant type for quite some time. The lack of braces isn't an issue as long as the tank is supposed to be that way (if it originally had bracing and it's been removed, that's a concern). Bracing allows the use of thinner glass, so you may notice this aquarium has thicker glass than typical.

ok mate cheers
they are originally made without braces
and you are correct the glass is alot thicker than normal
i have never had a tank thats as floating base
and i purchased this one off ebay
was just curious of its design
i have done a bit of research in last hour or so
seems all is ok thanks for your reasurrance
much appreciated
