Going to setup my 55 gal freshwater tank. Looking for one on one advice or any tricks of the trade learned through experience. I hate asking LFS because I feel they are just pushing what they have in stock. Also looking to possibly buy a LOAD of hearty clippings to help me plant cycle my tank. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA

You are so LUCKY !
You have access to SFBAAPS the largest Aquatic Plant Club in the USA.
http://www.sfbaaps.org/home.html

Membership is free. You must sign up with your real name...no screen names allowed. But no non clubmembers can view our forum anyway.

Also Neptunes in Milpitas are clubmembers and sometimes give our members little discounts plus they stock plants and cool fish. Nano fish also.
They've hosted meetings for us as well.

We swap clippings at all the meets. The Tom Barr is also a member.

San Jose Aquarium Society meets monthly as well as the San Francisco club.

You are in fish and plant heaven !

Go visit AquaForest in SF if you haven't already.
Albany Aquarium in Albany has good plants and quarantines their fish.

Welcome and perhaps I'll see you at a Meet or open house.
