goldfish need a bubbler?

I'm getting my grandmother a goldfish in a small goldfish silly question does it need a airator?

No they don't but what size tank and set up are you getting? Goldfish need larger tanks and are quite messy.

5 gallons is much too small for a goldfish. How about looking into a betta instead?

Yes a nicely colored Betta is your best choice and will be so much easier for her to take care of.

+1 many members on here have BEAUTIFUL bettas for sale. I would recommend getting one from here. Make her feel special and give her something different from the regular pet store bettas. Obviously though it's whatever you can afford and manage to get.
In the 5 gallon (depending on the Betta's temperament) you could possibly go with some nice looking shrimp too to add some color to the tank (if you wanted to)
