Hi there,

My goldfish has a white blemish near it’s left gill that has gotten worse.

I have just done a water change and have added in aquarium salt.

Does anyone know what this could be?

I have attached pictures.

Thanks.
1~What type of fish is afflicted? In addition, please describe what is wrong with the fish to the best of your ability (i.e. cotton like growth, bloated, etc.).
- goldfish, white protruding blemish bear left gill.

2~What are your tank parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, temp, pH)? Please give exact values.
- I have only just changed the water so not sure if it is accurate if I test it right now.

3~ How large is the tank? How long has the tank been set up?
- 36 litres and set up since December

4~What type of filtration are you using? Please give the name and number (i.e. Fluval 304) and amount of gph if known.
- unsure. The filter came with the tank - Aquaone Focus.

5~How many fish are in the tank? What kinds of fish are they and what are their current sizes?
- 3 goldfish. Differing sizes.

6~When is the last time you did a water change and vacuum the gravel? How often do you do this? How much water do you remove at a time?
-I did this a couple of hours ago. Usually do it once a week and vacuum the gravel each time. I remove about 30% of the water.

7~How long have you had the fish? If the fish is new, how did you acclimate it/them?
- I have had them since January 2022.

8~Have you added anything new to the tank--decor, new dechlorinator, new substrate, etc.?
- no. Nothing is new.

9~What kind of food have you been feeding your fish, have you changed their diet recently?
- I have changed from flakes to floating pellets but the blemish occurred before I changed the food.

Is this really a 36 litre tank? Thats nowhere near big enough for 3 goldfish and you will be seeing all sorts of health issues with your fish if you keep them in such a confined space.

200 litre minimum for those fish and filtration for double that.

I would still do a water test even though you have just changed some water. Have you been doing water tests before noticing your issue? If so what were they saying?
