My goldfish was found with a skin tear when I came home today. I don't know how it happened. There are some aquarium decorations in the tank, but nothing sharp. Here is a video of the tank setup and the fish (prior to the injury):

My hospital tank is only a 5 gallon, and the fish is approximately 5" long.

Here is a video I just took of the injured goldfish:

1~What type of fish is afflicted? In addition, please describe what is wrong with the fish to the best of your ability.-Goldfish. Has cut approximately 0.5" in diameter on side. The cut is on a patch of scales that had been rubbed off in an old injury and regrew as clear scales.

2~What are your tank parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, temp, pH)? Please give exact values. Ammonia is 0, nitrites are 0, nitrates are around 20ppm, temp is currently 76, ph is 6.8ish, alkalinity low

3~ How large is the tank? How long has the tank been set up? 50 gallon, 1.5 year

4~What type of filtration are you using? Please give the name and number (i.e. Fluval 304) and amount of gph if known. Tetra Whisper power filter 50 gal

5~How many fish are in the tank? What kinds of fish are they and what are their current sizes? 3 goldfish: 2 are 5" long, one is 3" long

6~When is the last time you did a water change and vacuum the gravel? How often do you do this? How much water do you remove at a time? Yesterday. Once a week. 50% removed per change at least

7~How long have you had the fish? If the fish is new, how did you acclimate it/them? 2 years

8~Have you added anything new to the tank--decor, new dechlorinator, new substrate, etc.? No

9~What kind of food have you been feeding your fish, have you changed their diet recently? Omega goldfish pellets and bug bites goldfish formula

Hello Rach...

The fish generally needs two things: pure water conditions, which means removing and replacing half the tank water weekly. If you're not already, then gradually work up to this point. I'd recommend adding some standard aquarium salt to the new, treated tap water. A teaspoon in every five gallons will help in the healing process.
