Hi I have a 10 gallon planted tank with java moss, anacharis, water wisteria, an amazon sword, and anubias nana. I got the java moss for 20 bucks at a local fish store(that was prob overpriced but I don't mind supporting them I guess).

When I got the java moss it was on a piece of drift wood, and in a rather dark part of their plant tank. I know you are supposed to keep the top part trimmed to allow the bottom part enough light, but on this one the entire bottom most layer is dead. There is a layer on top that's alive though... Is there any way I can save it to where 3/4 of it isn't dead?? Here's a picture of the moss.

It'll come back it will just take a very very long time. Try cutting the darkest brown and leave anything that still looks decent. I bought some half dead Christmas moss a month a ago and it's finally coming back.
